I owned the original 5 book set, BITD.
The company/author was fairly local, so his works showed up often in the local game store. I remember being quite enamored of it upon reading it, but the game fizzled out for us in play- IDR why specifically, but more often than not if things could not be resolved quickly with a dice roll, we were not interested- so possibly complexity of mechanics.

A kind thought, but alas that's not the only reason....I unfortunately also am having some choice items go up later this summer because I'm low on money too. But first I have to finish Fight On! #15! |

IDK if I ever tried to play it as written, but there was a lot of good stuff to strip for my D&D games out of there as I recall. |
