It seems like Fight On! should be offered on DriveThru as well as lulu, when we have time to upload stuff there.
Here's a rundown of the differences: DriveThru uses cheaper/lower weight paper, has significantly lower printing costs, and takes a higher share of creator revenue over print costs than lulu does.
This actually makes it a better platform for the magazine, since we only have about a dollar of creator revenue.
Except, they don't do saddle stitch. Argh!

I've bought one print on demand from Drivethru, was not that impressed with the book. Wasnt much better than home printing, though obviously they bind it much better than I ever could. Worth having the magazine on both though. The OSR peaked with Fight On!, the kids don't know what they are missing and they use DriveThru.

Good summary of the problems with DriveThru, which uses Lightning Press. The quality of books through Lulu are significantly better, it's not even close. Lulu is about as close to offset printing quality as you can find in POD. Lulu outsources their printing. It is just that Lightning Press is that low in quality, they seriously need to upgrade their equipment. The fee is hefty, and even worse if you're not 'exclusive' to DriveThru. But their shopping experience is so much better, and their desktop app that keeps your files up do date is excellent. |

I'm glad to get your reflections on that Thomden. That's a strong reason not to use DriveThru for the Darkness Beneath kickstarter books. From what I've heard it's crazy not to have our PDFs on there. But maybe for quality reasons we should keep the POD lulu only. I don't know.....there's a little time to think about this yet.
