Have any of you seen this: Original Edition CampaignIt is the houserules to someones campaign they've been running for 7 years. Looked pretty interesting to me. I just received my copy the other day after checking out a few youtube reviews. It has been a pretty interesting read, and I think I very well could pinch some ideas from it, but certainly not everything. Just a note if you buy, the binding makes it have almost no gutter for the text on some pages. I was still able to read everything, but the lack of gutter on the right pages made it a little tougher. Now to edit my thief comparisons with this version in the next couple of days.

I seem to recall some sort of "Erik's World" docs floating around years ago. I wonder if this is the same thing, or if I'm getting the name wrong. Too bad about the binding and the gutter issue.

I'm a sucker for these homebrew retroclones. Thanks for posting this; ordered!
Would be nice to get a PDF but I couldn't find one.

Who is this guy? Is he here on our boards?
It would be fun to talk with him about this.

Yeah I'm not sure. I've never heard the name, and I don't recall him putting an online handle in the book like some do. I'll double check tonight though. It would be really interesting to talk to him about it.

The link isn't working for me.
Does anyone know if the link redirects to the Amazon homepage if the product doesn't ship to the country the user is located in?

The amazing thing about the time we live in is being able to order a book and have it arrive the next day. I may put together a little review. First impressions are it is thin, but packs a punch. It reads a bit like the Cliff's Notes of OD&D character creation with a particular DM's idiosyncrasies. The dimensions are 8"x5", so a bit smaller than the original LBB's. It is not stand alone, it essentially only has races/classes and alternate adventuring rules and DM advice. No spells, monsters, or treasures.

The gutters are smaller than I'd like but I was able to read every page. Binding is typical Print On Demand perfect bound. Writing is very clear and concise.

Looking at your screenshot it seems the gutters are much better on yours. Mine is still readable, but the pages on the right essentially have 0 space between the binding and the text. Might just have to order a 2nd and hope it is better. If there was a pdf available I'd just print my own and staple it but it doesn't seem that is the case, at least yet.

Print on Demand can be hit or miss. Lulu for example outsources the printing, sometimes it is great, sometimes not. While Lightning Press (what DriveThru uses) is consistently mediocre. One other note, the pages are cream not white. It adds to the old school feel in a way.

Thanks for pointing this out, I got myself a copy as well. Some good ideas in here I might pilfer for my own campaign when I eventually have the time for that.

I swear I've seen this in PDF on Lulu or somewhere...maybe I'm thinking of something else that's similar? I'll have to look and see if I can find it.

Thanks for the post, I decided to spring for it via Amazon prime. This looks like a fun dip into someone's campaign world. Kinda like you hear over a few suds at the game convention bar after hours.

Yeah, thanks for pointing it out. I do like this format. Complete games are great and all, but overall if you're just playing D&D with some house rules, it seems more productive and in keeping with the hobby just to put out your house rules, rather than to restate the entire game so that readers have to hunt for the differences.
In a perfect world, everyone here would have a campaign booklet like this drawn up, something we can point our players to and share with other referees.

Sorry for being late to the party. I am Erik Johansson and i wrote "Original Edition Campaign". I would be happy to answer any questions. Concerning the "gutter": the booklet was written and designed to be "saddle stitched" (stapled) and all of my test prints that i sent out for review were "saddle stitched". It was not until after publishing that the company i used told me that saddle stitched booklets was unavailable for an international release.. I was super disappointed.
"Original edition campaign" can still be purchased as saddle stitched within the EU but for any American readers the book is only available as "perfect pound", sorry. There are two different ISBN numbers for the "saddle stiched" and "perfect bound" booklets. The EU saddle stiched one also has dimensions a lot closer to the original LBBs. If any of you are still interested, i would love to answer any of your questions.
