You may have noticed that it's been sporadic at best.
It's not going away; here's what happened.
I moved my eflair.com site (with a full redesign) entirely over to Square so I could have all my business work in one place (and present a bit more of a modern experience). In the process, I thought maybe I didn't want to pay Bizland's very high prices for web hosting for my regular site. So I looked for a few alternates. What I encountered was the following:
1. So-called "Free" webhosting sites these days are scams which at best force you into template-based websites, forbid you to do things like making PDFs available on your site, and make you jump through RIDICULOUSLY arcane hoops just to have a domain point to your site (if they allow one at all) unless you pay them a premium for their service. So in the end, they're not in fact free. InfinityFree is a prime example of that. What a joke.
2. Some of the supposedly best providers out there (BlueHost, I'm looking at you) aren't much better--they require you to jump through INSANE hoops, transfer your domains, and go through crazy arcane methods just to get your domain working...and then they refuse to let you have a basic HTML site. You are REQUIRED to use WordPress.
The worst part is all of them claim, "Oh, there's nothing we can do about the complexity. That's just the nature of the Internet." Really? Then why have I NEVER had complexity with Bizland? Everything there is a simple click of a button or dropdown.
Anyway, after going through a number of these nightmare services, I realized that the reason Bizland is so expensive is...they're the best. If BlueHost and their WordPress requirement are Apple, offering pretty results if you're willing to start from scratch, but thereafter locking you into their specific infrastructure with HEAVY controls over customization, Bizland is Android, letting you do whatever the Hell you want with your site while still providing security. I decided the cost was worth it and migrated back to Andr...er, Bizland..this morning.
Lesson learned: expensive or not, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If I ever have the time to devote to completey rebuilding an old HTML site that I've been maintaining for something like 15 years, maybe I'll look into a new service. Till then...I can afford it.
It should take about 24 hours for the DNS records to update again and grey-elf.com will be properly active once more. Until then my D&D site can be accessed at greyelf.bizland.com/.
