bobjester0e I apologize. I did not read your post as carefully as I would like to. My deepest condolences to you and your family. My Sister and I had to go through the same process with our Mom belongings. (For me a lot of memories are hidden in unique personal effects, after awhile I have given most everything to my Sis because I become too melancholy). Thank you, and there is nothing to apologize for. 8)

It's been a week now, and my head's clearing a lot. I'm learning to look at things more positively, and to be thankful she's not suffering and for all the good times we had together. I've been told the hurt never fully goes away, but you learn to manage it more. That makes sense. Getting back to work and into other normal routines has helped a lot, too. I appreciate all the kind words of advice and condolences, and how others have used this thread to share their own personal grief. That's the kind of engagement I had hoped for, here.

Thanks. Yes, she was the best. As I'm moving forward and putting a lot of the pain and grief behind me (never all of it, but the teeth aren't as sharp now), I have been thinking back over the years gaming with my home group and the changes my mother's actions made on my persistent campaign world. I think I will involve her in the next campaign by referencing the legacy her main PC left behind and making it a primary quest hook.
She got too sick to play any more the last two years she was alive but she still talked about her character and our games often. She would want something of that to persist after she's gone, I feel. Specifically, she was a high level magic user with a unique and well defended stronghold that beckons a new generation to explore it. If they dare.
