White Box

Did the OD&D box have two versions of the magic-user on the front?  I'm looking at a fuzzy copy of one box that seems to have a bird on the magic-users hand while the other box seems to have a magic symbol traced in the air.

It's a magic symbol in both, the "bird" is just an optical illusion because of the lines on the back wall.
