How long until they are patrolling the streets enforcing the peace?

What system would you use to emulate a Robocop setting?

I'd probably pick either a stripped-down Shadowrun that excludes all the fantasy elements and some of the highest-tech gadgets, or else World of Darkness - but that's mostly due to familiarity with those rather than any special conviction that they'd be better than say, Cyberpunk 2020 or some other option.

DDO, DCC, or more Lost City map work? Oh, the hardship of making adult decisions! ;)

Paranoia. I prefer 1st/2nd edition Paranoia, and have never played any of the other versions.
Paranoia 'Bots play pretty well.
Paranoia was the original game system modeled on fake utopian real dystopian sci-fi elements.
Robocop fits, and Jim Holloway included Robocop and the 'walker' (iirc its name) in Paranoia b&w illustrations throughout the rulebooks & adventures.
I cannot not see Holloway's Paranoia renditions any time I see a pic or still from Robocop.

How long until they are patrolling the streets enforcing the peace? It looks like we will need to invest in personal EMP generators. Definitely Dystopian in future practice. I doubt they will be used to go into burning buildings to rescue people.

That article is 5 years old. These robots have come a long way since then. As well as being put to real use on construction sites. I'm not suggesting they are going to take over the world in 10 years or anything, but you can clearly see their potential.

The robot at my workplace has the one simple task of painting between the lines and stays broke down 3/4ths of the time. I think we're several decades away from being overthrown by robots or ruled over by robot police.

You'd need corporations willing to pony up the cash to keep the repair bots in working order, first. Again, I feel relatively secure for now.

Again, I feel relatively secure for now. This whole time I have not been talking about the real world. Only hypothetically in a dystopian campaign setting. But, if you want a serious take. I think we are a long ways from these being a threat to the labor market, but if civilization doesn't collapse*, they will eventually become a viable labor force that will affect jobs. That could be 50-100 years from now, or 20 years. *I'm not a pessimist, just a student of history. Civilizations normally collapse eventually, then it takes centuries to rebuild. As hard as that is to imagine in our technologically advanced society. We may have better toys now, but human nature hasn't changed.
