I'm wondering if anybody here has seen some of the EXÍN Castillos toys that were made in Spain starting in the late 60's. My father gave me a set in the 70's, which I still have (with all the pieces!) and which gets taken out nw and then to build castles with my kid. It's like LEGO but simpler compared to their modern sets, and pretty much purpose-built for constructing castles. Depending on how many blocks you use, you could easily cobble something together for a unit-level wargame like DBA or, with lots more pieces, a scale model for skirmish-level games. But they're also just fun to build with. I don't think these are available any longer in the States. I wonder if any of our European friends know if they are still in production?

OMG! Count me as insanely jealous. Some US Google-Fu shows only expensive eBay sets and collectors showing off their castles.
Very nice

Yes. I have two large-ish sets that occasioanlly get used to build “strongholds” (a game jargon technical term) when we are playing Hordes of the Things. I checked the box recently to ensure they were still there, but haven’t had them out for a couple of years....
