What happened with/to Rafael?

Oh? That's a shame. Super nice and helpful guy. He gave me some encouragement and advice when I joined. Hope he's doing alright.

Rafe is alive and well and doing fine. He simply left this place with no intention of returning, but that's not my story to tell.

Rafe spent a lot of years here and did some great things for the board. He was a key moderator for years, was in charge of security of the boards, and contributed a lot of behind-the-scenes things to this place. Having accomplished many of the goals he set for this board, Rafe had indicated that he was planning on stepping away and so he helped put a moderator team in place to run things in his absence. I hadn't anticipated him deleting his account, but he had talked about taking a lesser role here for some time. He contributed a lot in his time here, and I wish him well. His presence here will be missed.

Beyond that, it's not really my story to tell either.

I agree. However, FYI his account is still part of the database even though the software displays his name as “Deleted”. Try it in a search:

That's a shame. He was the one who welcomed me here. I wish he didn't delete his account, but we have to respect his decision. I hope he is well.

Yeah, my greatest frustration about this place is that folks can delete their account. If they want to leave I would rather that they just stop logging in instead of deleting, because others may enjoy what they had to say.

This doesn't apply to Rafael because he knew the proboards software inside and out but it would best for people who decide they have had enough to simply EDIT the PROFILE -> Notification and set everything to NEVER. This will make sure they get nothing from the board and can just go about their lives and live it be. The Delete does seem like nuke from orbit kind of thing but, hey what do I know.

Yeah, Rafael's reviews of the entire Shannara body of work is but one example. To put such effort into a task, completing it with aplomb, and then to destroy it - that's a hard path to take, imo. Anyway, best of luck to the man. He was a good moderator.

This sucks.
He helped me get back here after years of misfired joinings & not ever receiving notifications.
(This was not ever the board's fault - it was all mishandled on my end!)
He was a huge help in getting me active here earlier this year.
