I just bought the 3 OD&D booklets for $50 including shipping; not bad huh? Sure I had the pdfs but I'm excited to own the real deal. I didn't get them in the box, so I'll probably store them with my Holmes stuff.

It feels good to finally hold them in your own hands, doesn't it. It still makes me go ooh ahh when I pick them up and look through them, after waiting almost 30 years to get my own set.

I still remember how cool it felt to open the box and hold them in my hands.
Of course, this was back in the early-mid 80s, so I hadn't had such a lot of anticipation. I just liked the idea of knowing where the game came from. (It never occurred to me at the time that I'd ever actually run the game.) Finally, a lot of stuff from Best of the Dragon V. I made sense!
But it is definitely cool to have the actual, physical books. Welcome to the club!

I'm one of those crazy people for whom having a physical copy of a book means a great deal to me, so I know exactly what it's like to take pleasure in owning the LBBs.
Now if I could just find myself a good copy of Chainmail ...

And now I've acquired the 4 supplements. All combined, it cost me $100 for the 7 booklets, shipping included. I think it's a good deal. Gosh, Eldritch Wizardry is almost spooky-looking. I really like it I used the recent thread with the OD&D box scan to print out a cover, and I used my extra Mentzer Basic box to put it on. The OD&D books fit nicely into the Mentzer box side-by-side.

Excellent find. For me it became addictive. I had dupes made from pdfs, and a box I made by hand, but wanted the real thing. Eventually I scored a 5.5 printing set (5th print box, 6th print books) and got hold of all the supplements...but then I decided I wanted a set that had hobbits and ents and nazgul (oh, my!)...so I eventually purchased a 5th print box (which is in almost new condition). Both of those are on the shelf, to be treasured and taken down to look at every so often, but the dupes were what I intended as my "Beater" copies to use.
Then I decided I wanted an original beater set.
So I just scored the 3 LBBs for $40 (no box, no ref sheets). I have a copy of Supplement II that's used with black cloth tape reinforcing the spine.
Now I just need to replace my dupes of Supplement I, III, IV, Swords & Spells, and Chainmail.
And also get a second set of chainmail and all the supplements to go in my 5th print set.
Sigh. The addiction of OD&D collecting.

Now I just need to replace my dupes of Supplement I, III, IV, Swords & Spells, and Chainmail. Try Amazon Marketplace, every now and then some killer deals will surface -- I recently scored clean copies of the OCE and Greyhawk for a total of $30.

Btw, my 3 little books don't mention hobbits/ents/nazgul.

Alright, I've decided that if & when I run an OD&D campaign I'll use Verbosh as the main campaign "world". Thieves of Fortress Badabaskor will be there too, explaining why Verbosh is cut off from the rest of the world to a certain degree. And just outside of Verbosh will be City State of the Invincible Overlord. Oh, and somewhere in the territory of Verbosh will be Tegel Manor. So ... I think that's a pretty cool little sandbox. Someday I'll even run it
