That's awesome. I don't play video games much, but I have fond memories of hanging out in the arcade as a teen watching a friend play this for hours. I can't imagine where in my house I would put one, but I would find space somehow! Also, isn't Ryan Reynolds making a movie of this game?

Congrats!
I spent way too much money & time at the arcade. But I think that game came out towards the end of my arcade days. I only played it once or twice. Do I remember it costing twice as much (50 cents)?

This one is an iiRcade machine. I backed the Kickstarter, but they're taking pre-orders on their website for the regular release (by which time hopefully they'll have ironed out some of the bugs I had to deal with getting mine setup). What's cool about it is it comes with 10 games pre-loaded and it connects to wi-fi. From there you can access an app store for the console. They have over 300 games licensed (including a license with Sega for all their stuff), and you can buy additional games for between $5 and $14, depending on the game. Dragon's Lair and Double Dragon come pre-loaded, so that's a good deal right out of the gate. There's also 3 designs: you can get the Dragon's Lair cabinet (like I got), the Double Dragon cabinet, or their Black Edition cabinet, which you can supposedly customize with your own graphics. You can also get a machine as a bartop machine if you don't have room for a full sized arcade console. It's essentially the bartop on a riser if you get the full sized one like I have above. It comes in one or two flat packed boxes (depending on whether you just order the bartop or the bartop and the riser) and you have to assemble it. It goes together much like a piece of furniture from IKEA, but the build quality is excellent. The only issue I had was that I had to get in under the hood (violating my warranty in the process) because some of the button connections were loose and I had to tighten them. Hopefully they can fix that on the final release versions, because people who aren't tech savvy will have a horrible time with that issue. Currently I have installed: Double Dragon Dragon's Lair Super Burger Time (Purchased, not pre-loaded) Beach Buggy Racing Bomb Squad Dragon Master Fancy World Gunbird Maniac Square Mat Mania (Purchased, not pre-loaded) Snowboard Championship Strikers 1945 (Purchased, not pre-loaded) Twin Brats Ninja Kazan (Purchased, not pre-loaded) I can post a link if it's cool but would like Finarvyn to give the OK for that before I do.

Do I remember it costing twice as much (50 cents)? Yeah, it was ridiculously advanced, but also crazy difficult, and notorious for its technical problems at the time. SO much so that they only made 3 games of its type: Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair II, and Space Ace. They ran on laserdiscs instead of regular game graphics. Of course, the modern ports use modern graphics and programming technology so it runs smoother and doesn't have those issues. But it's still really tough. I've only ever won it once, and that was with guides on the screen (which some players claim is a cheat).

Love this game! Don Bluth's animation was better than Disney at the time IMHO.
I didn't get to play Dragon's Lair that much because my local arcade had Space Ace instead, so that was the one that ate most of my quarters.
Princess Daphne is over the top sexy.

What no Gauntlet? Red Wizard needs food! Gauntlet is not currently available or you can be sure I'd have it. Nor do they have Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Donkey Kong, Frogger, Q-Bert, Dig Dug, Commando...I think they're still working on the licensing for some of the really famous names. I did buy Space Harrier today, and the fact that it came stock with Dragon's Lair and Double Dragon was worth the price of entry unto itself!

I forgot about Galaga, love that game!!! This was my favorite along with Donkey Kong and Pac Man I was always a Ms. Pac Man guy. To this DAY I cannot walk past a Ms. Pac Man machine without stopping to play. Drives my wife crazy. In fact, we were in New Orleans a few years back, and there was this gigantic machine. I had to play. By the time I was done I'd drawn a crowd of about 20 kids who were ooh-ing and aah-ing at every maze I flipped. Craziness.

WELCOME TO DONNER PASS. "Say, Paw, wuts fer supper?" That arcade game looks awesome. Sadly, I was forbidden by parental decree to have anything to do with video games, as they (not completely inaccurately) deemed them to be the same thing as slot-machines, and they were vehemently anti-gambling. I remember the contemporary news items on TV describing Dragon's Lair. The animated graphics by Bluth looked sumptuous, although my friends (who *were* allowed to play it) complained of very long lines, long waits, the expense, the technical hang-ups, etc. I've seen recent Youtube vids of replays and it looked amazing, although monotonous and deadly. Now give me a faithful repro of a PAC-MAN arcade game, and I'm down for that action!

Wow, dude, that sucks! It is INCREDIBLY deadly and hard. I don't know that I'd call it monotonous. Each scene has wildly different solutions and you need lightning-fast reflexes even with the hints on screen to show you the patterns. It's not an easy game to get through, and can legit be infuriating. But at the same time it's awesome. Those are out there. Arcade 1Up does a whole line of classic machines, but with the necessary riser they cost a little over half the cost of the iiRcade, has only 4 or 5 games (at most) and can never be upgraded. Meanwhile, iiRcade has a constantly growing app store with classic and modern games, and we're all expecting to see some old-school AAA titles eventually.

Ms. PacMan was just as loved and I played that as much as the original. I should also add Zaxxon. General discussion Now if we are going to start talking computer games- My friend had an Apple II and we played alot of Eamon (Text D&D game with separate modules), Wizardry (PGOTMO), and Choplifter. For myself- a C-64 guy it was - Telengard. Temple of Apshai (trilogy). Bruce Lee. Questron. Phantasie. Tons of others, but those are the ones I remember spending the most hours on. I've been playing alot of Telengard lately.

It was a computer game based on V (but with the serial numbers filed off). Just your basic platformer shoot-em-up, but man was it cool.

Here’s my version of that… set up recently for my son and me. As a slight aside from the main topic, this speaks to me, because I fall into the age range called "Generation Oregon Trail" by some. Played God knows how many hours of that game on an Apple II in elementary school.

Same. We played a lot of Oregon Trail and Odell Lake at the IIe computer lab at school. But I also had a //c at home and, eventually, a IIGS, and we played a lot of great games.

One of the great things I love about the internet and indie game developer culture is that we see a lot of games that remind me of my childhood, graphically and in terms of what the layout of the game is. Big AAA game studios keep moving towards these hyper-realistic but shallow gaming experiences but you get a ton of creativity with the roguelikes and the retro-games. I've put more hours into stuff like Angband, Dwarf Fortress and Stardew Valley over the past five years than anything new. I don't even own a gaming console newer than an XBox 360. I kind of fell out of that kind of gaming about the time I quit modern D&D, I guess. The idea of collecting cool arcade cabinets like thegreyelf is doing does appeal to me, though. That'd be a good use of my spare change. There's a few I used to play at the arcade as a kid I really wish I had. For me it was the era of Mortal Kombat, House of the Dead and Cruisin' USA but I played the hell out of Mrs. Pacman and Donkey Kong back in the day, too.

For me it was the era of Mortal Kombat, House of the Dead and Cruisin' USA but I played the hell out of Mrs. Pacman and Donkey Kong back in the day, too. One of the great things about the iiRcade is that it plays new indie games like you'd find on Steam or Google Play to retro-style games as well as the arcade classics. They're cutting deals with just about everyone they can to bring games to the cabinet. You buy games through an app store just like you would through something like an NVIDIA Shield, but you get the arcade cabinet form factor to play them through. It's HIGHLY userfriendly (much more so than, say, the Legends Ultimate, which focuses as much as or more on old consoles than arcade games) and very straightforward. It's still a new machine so they're working through some technical glitches, but they'll be all smoothed over by the time it hits wide release, and being involved in the early release has been a lot of fun, even with any minor headaches that arise. So far it's been things like loose plug-and-play connections that need to be tightened (it happens from getting jarred around during FedEx shipping), power cycling issues (sometimes it doesn't want to wake up from sleep mode and needs to be shut down and restarted), and a few game ports being a bit buggy. But none of it is insurmountable and they're working hard to fix it all. They're also implementing really fun features like global leaderboards, league play and the like. In the future they're looking at real time online head to head play. Bomb Squad already allows this but requires you to setup IP forwarding through your router, which they freely admit isn't ideal. They also give you a full unlimited 1-year warranty on the whole machine top to bottom inside and out, which is an industry best. Their customer service has been A-1 level great. I'm really pleased with it.

Does it hold up? I’ve tried many many times to play games that I played as a kid in the 80’s and 90’s and they’re fun for a few minutes but that’s about it.

Holds up for me. I play it every day. I'm up to over 40 games on it. It's also worth noting that unlike other multicades, this one plays some of the most popular new Android and Steam games out there like Dead Effect 2, Oddmar, Riptide GP Renegade, Evoland, Teslagrad, Wonderboy, etc.

On a slight tangent, is there a plug-n-play usb joystick or controller that is useful for online games? I'd like to play this PAC-MAN clone, but my keyboard keys are not responsive enough. Preferably below the 50 USD pricepoint, if possible.
