Someone made me aware recently that the Fantasy Flight Games website might be going the way of the Dodo in February. FYI, they released a 30th Anniversary box set of the 1e West End Games Star Wars RPG a couple of years ago. They're still selling copies on the FFG storefront. I've got mine and it's beautiful. If you're interested in acquiring the game in this format, you may soon lose your chance. I'm not 100% sure what's going to happen to their game catalogue or why the site is shutting down and I could be mistaken, but I know there's some hardcore SW fans around here who might wanna nab a copy while they last. I share this because, much to my chagrin, I slept on my chance to nab the OD&D 40th Anniversary box set a few years ago until it was all sold out and the ebay scalpers jacked the prices through the roof. Not saying that's necessarily going to happen here but it'd suck if anyone missed their chance. I made sure to get mine this time around and I'm glad I did. I won't regret it either way. d6 Star Wars is iconic and this print is beautiful. It far exceeds the quality of the Print-On-Demand stuff you see these days. It's just a straight up faithful reprint.

I bought mine last year on eBay. Haven't been able to run it yet, obviously... ¬_¬

I'll check my FLGS. I believe they still have a 30th Anniversary edition on the shelf. Not sure about the price, but I doubt that its jacked up like ebay, although the owner does use ebay prices on used items in the store.
Some AD&D 2e & 3.5 books have price tags over $100 that someone got a couple bucks in store credit for bringing them in.

Hm, dang, for $36 a pop (and free shipping via Amazon Prime), I may just buy a set for each of my players.

I thought about that, too, but haven't pulled the trigger...

Nice. Glad I nabbed mine while I did, for previously aforementioned reasons. I think this system is "up there" for me with OD&D, Classic Traveller and Classic Runequest for systems I want to actually run going forward. Probably for that simple reason that "Star Wars" as a setting is the one I soaked in the most in my childhood. I'm a Star Wars/Harryhausen fan. That's the bulk of my personal "Appendix N". I messed around with d20 Star Wars when that was the hotness but it can't touch the d6 system IMO. And that source book, the second book, is just a really cool world-building book in general.

Star Wars Second Edition was my first P&P RPG (outside of Fighting Fantasy), so it was very good timing to seek out physical copies when I did. I was originally just going to find a vintage copy, but the reprints were about the same price.

Vintage copies are going to be better quality, no question about it. The reprints are basically POD-level quality, albeit with a pretty slipcase. The coolness factor for me was in being able to gift it to all your friends, shiny and pristine and affordable and playable, so playable. There are precious few other opportunities like this (that appeal to me).

Yeah. I feel the same way about the POD for the D&D Rules Cyclopedia I got my hands on a couple of years ago. It's cool to have it to hold in my hands again. Takes me back to my childhood. The transfer is far from perfect but it's real. It exists. I can hold it in my hands, use it, and share it. That's what games are for.

I have a vintage copy of the 2nd Ed. Revised & Expanded d6 Star Wars from WEG as well as a litany of supplements. Is it worth buying the 20th Anniversary reprint?

I wouldn’t buy it for myself (I have vintage copies), but like I said, what a great opportunity to stock up for your whole group.

I'd argue that it is unique and charming enough in an old school way to be worth having in the same way AD&D 1e is still worth having even though AD&D 2e is more refined (OD&D goes without saying, to go farther). The presentation is gorgeous, too. Nice sturdy sleeve that both hardcovers fit inside.

The price is now down to $28.41...! Which got me to buy a second copy.

I've replayed the solo adventure about three times to brush myself up on these mechanics and I keep triggering the alarm every time. D'oh!

Oh? That's so odd. I could have sworn they were going to be imminently unavailable again a while back. I don't regret snatching up another copy, in any event.

I’ve bought seven copies and sent them to friends. Thinking of grabbing two more. I always wanted to have multiple table copies of the Rulebook.

Well, I snagged 2 more sets! I love, love, love that they reprinted this game, and am glad to have enough table copies to go around. I can even, in a few years when these dry up, turn around and sell the extra Sourcebooks to recover some of my money (maybe even make a profit). I only really want the Rulebooks.

I've read through the core books, a while back, and was very impressed by the setting book and about 90% of the game mechanics, but there's one little bugbear I have about this game that's preventing me from wanting to run it, and that's the whole narrative style of the game. It pretty much forces a railroad-y, linear storytelling style and even has the GM write out dialogue for certain scenes. To me, that's just not how an RPG ought to be. I feel a sense of revulsion towards this aspect. A player's decisions and character should be entirely in their hands, IMO. Am I the only one who feels this way? How do you guys handle this?

Ignore it. It encourages narrativism, but narrativism is not baked into the rules in any appreciable way. Pretty par for the course of that era of RPGs. If there’s anything you feel is missing, it is probably included in Galaxy Guide 6: Tramp Freighters.

Good to know. I'm thinking about a little pbp game at some point, especially since this thread confirms several of us own the rulebooks. There's currently room for a sci Fi game on the boards as Frank's Traveller game seems to be on hiatus. Would anyone be down for 1e Star Wars at some point?

I'm happy to run a traditional pbp using these rules and to simultaneously continue the fantasy poll based one. If I could get two or three "star warriors" on board for a relaxed-pace campaign with a classic Tattooine starter scenario, it will be a go. The idea will be that you're landlocked at the beginning because the Falcon just left and the Imperials have locked all the Mos Eisley spaceports down. (So, this is during ANH. Death Star is active but unknown to the Galaxy) Depending on character backgrounds and connections this could be a huge problem or a minor inconvenience, of course. That's the framework for now. I'll need to study on it a few weeks even if anyone signs up.

I ran a SW 1st edition campaign based on A New Hope, Splinter of the Mind's Eye, and the Han Solo books, and winged the rest of it. Was a lot of fun, and no canon was cared about and no scripts were written

Was a lot of fun, and no canon was cared about and no scripts were written Hell yeah. That's what I'll be going for when I eventually get around to running this, someday. (My initial pitch is on hiatus for now. I got invited to a Traveller game, and my sci fi itch is being scratched at the moment, but it's not entirely retired as an idea. Just resting.)
