Buying enough swords and armor to equip the goblins, then negotiate their assistance in attacking the greater threats further on...

Can we banish politics from D&D, please? Plenty of forums for politics exist already.

Ah, possibly the cartoon (and its presentation here) was intended humorously?
And now for the dialectic in action:
Thesis: OD&D 74
Antithesis: Ken St. Andre's criticism of same
Synthesis: Tunnels & Trolls

Solemn steeple-fingering should be banned in the game as well.

Buying enough swords and armor to equip the goblins, then negotiate their assistance in attacking the greater threats further on... One goblin coming up!
Classism here misses the point. Chivvy is better. Far more important than good swords and armor, for goblins (their true means) - a nighttime or underground ambush against a hapless, blind, injured, weak, or encumbered foe.

Politics and current WoTC aside, this was funny. Next they need to question the dungeon's ecology! Where do all these monsters eat, drink and poop!!!!

Either OD&D's antithesis is fundamental to the little brown box or Tunnels and Trolls represents the dissolution of the original. I'm sorry, but the dialectic cannot continue unless it incorporates at least one of these contradictions I found this one, cruising Reddit r/dndmemes. I normally hate this stuff, but this is an actual comic, and the dm made me laugh out loud.

D&D and Philosophy, at Existential Comics, is one of my favorite series. There are five or six of them. Kant: "So you aren't going to attack with me because you want to pretend you don't know what 'evil' means?" existentialcomics.com/comic/23
