Sorry if asked before. Was this introduced in the third edition and if so does it post date the 3llbs?
Edit: Answered my own question: yes.

I like the idea of spell complexity chart and rolls. I have no ******* clue how that chart is supposed to be used. It is impenetrable.

I like the idea of spell complexity chart and rolls. I have no ******* clue how that chart is supposed to be used. It is impenetrable. How about this: To cast a spell, throw two six-sided dice and consult the table. Your wizard figure requires the indicated score (or above) to immediately (I), or with delayed effect (D), cast a spell of whatever complexity. The negated (N) figures are either: a) Redundant: If you don't score at least enough for a delayed effect (D), this casting of the spell is negated and nothing happens, or b) Representative of Vancian memory capacity: A score of at least the (N) value negates this casting attempt of the spell only, whereas a score below the (N) value negates the spell entirely for the rest of the battle?

Well, this is a case where the chainmail bikini really shines - much less complex to cast spells with all that freedom of movement! Right?
