Does anyone know if there is a really large, accurate, scalable reproduction (.png) of the OS map (preferably without the house and animal icons) -- i.e. just the landscape features. I've seen some close approximations using Hexographer, but the icons were included, and I don't have the time to buy and learn Hexographer to make my own. Ideally, I'd like it to be hi-res enough that I can upload it to Office Depot and have a huge map printed up.
MODS: If this isn't in the right place, firstly, apologies. Please relocate it to the correct area of the forum.

Dunno how huge you need, but I made this one for myself, so I could print on 8.5x11 and color with colored pencil: The background patterns ended up being too fine to show up well with my printer, but might look okay larger? I have another copy of the map where the patterns are 2x scaled. I'm not super happy with how either one turned out, and I think I should've gone with something more traditional, but coloring it really helped. I have another version where the hexes are colored in if you want color. Either way, let me know if you like it, and I can remove the symbols from it. One of these days I want to redo it more traditional, like the Karameikos map in the Expert book.

That one's pretty good, too.

If you don't find a perfect solution, you could always take the Hexographer version, export to .png and then a free image editor like Gimp (or even MS Paint) to remove the icons. Might take a half hour tops.

That's a lovely map, however the link is not working. I'm hoping to find one in colour that is close to the original. Ideally, what I eventually upload to Office Depot for printing on plastic sheeting (for durability) should be very sharp and clear when the height is about 3 feet, and the width being whatever it will be proportionately.

Would you mind uploading the source vector file?

Wait, have I missed some history here? Did the original 1972 box not have deer or house markers printed on the map or something?

To be honest, I don't know which was the first, but it seems that there were two versions! In Vol. III Gary mentioned buildings, so I think he had the one with deers

This upscaled map may work for me. Many sincere thanks. I uploaded it to Office Depot to make a huge "banner" of it. I'll show a pic of it when it arrives next week.

It certainly does look like a Photoshop...every legit board I've seen online is split into three boards, and you can see where the fold goes weird on the left side.
Hmm, actually, there's a few that are one single board that's split 2/3 down the center, like this one:

I've contacted the guy of osrgimoire.blogspot.com, he claims that he got the version (without deers and buildings) from imgur. Now I wait for the answer from the very source

In the Board Game Geek thread retrorob posted above, I linked to another BGG thread covering differences between the 1972 box and the 1973 box. The suggestion there is that the original 1972 box shipped with a single piece foldout map, and the 1973 run changed that to AH's iconic three-panel map. I hadn't heard of this before, but I wouldn't be surprised if the first brief print run had a rare folding board. I still want to see an actual 1972 box for confirmation, though. Whether that folding board lacked houses and deer? That seems like something that would be more common knowledge, but who knows.

In re formats... PNG is not a scalable format. It's a bitmap. SVG, PS/EPS are scalable.

robertsconley, I love your b&w rendering and I use it all the time. The guy who also refs in my campaign also uses it and it helps us coordinate the campaign. We have noticed a few mistakes / omissions but we cannot edit the doc. If I detail some of what we have noticed, would you be willing to make a few updates and re-share? Thanks for considering.

One major mistake is that I don't have a copy of this. I have the 2x3 panel one and use it, but a single sheet one would be pretty kewl.

robertsconley , great! Now, I may be mistaken in some of these, of course, but these are the errors I have found: 0506 there is a deer/lair/dungeon 1404 there is also a pond/stronghold 1517 is a pond/castle, rather than in 1518 1616 has a road going through the mountains from 1516 to 1617 1820 has a deer/lair/dungeon 2925 through 2928 there is a road 2927 has a deer/lair/dungeon, rather than 2928 2928 is a pond/castle, rather than a deer/lair 3315 has a ford 3414 is a pond/castle, rather than 3514 3625 has a pond/castle, rather than 3526 (the deer/lair is correct in 3526) 3715 has a deer/lair/dungeon Thanks for looking at this with me. (Sorry to be late on the details, DungeonDevil ). P.S., did you ever work up that color version you mentioned?
