It looks great! I take it that the white booklet between the second Chainmail and Men & Magic booklets is the fabled Dalluhn Manuscript I keep hearing about but only seen in excerpts?

Much improved!
Any way to utilize the blue space at the right? Maybe some classic dungeon battle scene?

Awesome new banner Verhaden! Perhaps the background grid could reproduce an authentic-hand-drawn dungeon map on graph paper?

I'll have to create my own ProBoards forum to see what kind of settings an Admin. has for banner graphics. I assumed you had a BG image and a logo image, which would allow the repeating grid BG to scale with different window sizes & resolutions while keeping the logo image in full view. But I don't know what restrictions or options are available at the moment.

I must say that I love the new banner.. But it makes me extremely jealous that you put "Beyond This Point be Dragons", because not all of us have access to such a document.

Just the cover. Tried to reflect the main forum topics (in this case Pre-Publication) even if its authorship and dating are up for debate. Was going to add Judges Guild covers, but thought that took the lineage a little farther than what most people might have wanted.

What I meant though was that it was a tease, because every other item on the list is attainable, but BTPBD is a secret society of sorts.

Here's the ad that keeps appearing: And if I click on it, I get this: It seems to be in all the forums that uses proboards. ...I find these tactics very hypocritical since Proboards claims: But this is both annoying and a popup! Technically, it's a scroll-linked CSS popup. Neither the NoScript nor AdBlockPlus Firefox add-ons I use seem to protect against it. To get rid of it, I installed the GreaseMonkey Firefox add-on and wrote the following JavaScript one-liner: window.runAntiAdBlock=0; Poof it's gone! Perhaps someone with more web savvy has a better idea? For the record, I have no qualms about using ad blockers. Content providers certainly have a right to make money by serving ads. But does that negate my right to use ad blockers in my browser, on my pc, in my home? Furthermore, there's another thread on these boards about malvertizing -- attempts to download malware through ads. I certainly have the right to defend myself against crooks trying to hack my pc!!!

I've just learned to ignore the message.
Were there political ads in this place last year? I disabled my ad blocker one time, and something that looked like a political ad popped up. That's why my ad blocker is staying on.

O'course the 3rd Ed. CM (silver cover) appears out of chronological order It was apparently printed Jan-Feb 1975, shortly before Greyhawk 1st print in March 75.

Assuming everyone generally agrees (?) that BtPBD was a fan's fork of D&D, should the BtPBD cover in the banner actually be the GD&D cover? Just askin

With respect to CM, I wanted to group "like" with "like". I still have the source file, so I can easily replace the BtPBD entry with Guidon if I can get a decent scan/photo of the front page. Of course, I could excise any pre-publication reference altogether too.

The only Guidon D&D cover we've seen is just a blank page with the title, subtitle and names. It'd be hard to tell what it is in the banner: odd74.proboards.com/post/201322/threadIMO, the BtPBD cover is a good representative for the work of all of the gamers who played OD&D and then made their own version.

I didn’t want to nitpick, since overall it’s a great header; but, as long as verhaden is open to suggestions, I would prefer to see more immediate descendants of OD&D. Something like this: Chainmail, M&M, M&T, U&WA, FFC, Warriors of Mars, EPT, Greyhawk, Guide to the City State, The Spartan #9 [featuring Warlock], Arduin Grimoire Vol. I, and All the World’s Monsters Vol 2 [featuring the Perrin Conventions].
To me that would better represent the hobby as centered on OD&D itself, rather than a rehearsal of the canonical “road to AD&D,” as it were (though Greyhawk still stands in for that direction).
Perhaps the S&W White Box could be last, to honor Marv and to represent the OSR/retroclone movement. IIRC the blue/wintery Mullen cover was his favorite.

An interesting design, captainjapan. Gets rid of the whole "which books" issue.

I was just nitpicking, as I said. I overall like the books header. But I like this dice one, too.
