I don't actually think Dragonlance sucks as much as a lot of my fellow grognards do. I find it to be a fun and entertaining world. Yeah, the modules are the worst examples of railroads, but they are chock full of cool adventure locales. The books, while highly derivative and too silly at times are a fun light read. I only read the Chronicles and the Legends and a smattering of the others, so I don't have an exhaustive experience with them. Maybe there are some really good books in there somewhere.
One Dragonlance book I do find to be a total gem though is the Atlas by Karen Wynn Fonstad, who also did masterful work on the Middle-Earth Atlas.

Oh yes. The Atlas and the Art Of books are amazing. The Chronicles and Legends are passable for pre- to late- teens.
