Newt Newport is back at it with an upgraded version of OpenQuest.
For the uniformed- this is based on Mongoose's D100 SRD license from the mid Y2Ks. A simplified "Mongoose Runequest/Legend" system. It is not attached to Glorantha or any other world directly, and it looks like Newt will actually be hosting a SRD website for it this time. It is different than Chaosium's BRP- OQ designed to run smoother and faster at the expense of some crunch/detail/granular rules (Fine by me!) The Skill list/system and combat is fairly well streamlined compared to BRP.
There is a sample PFD of the first couple chapters up on the KS page.
I have used the original version of Openquest for running Balastor's Barracks ( the original RQ1 "dungeon crawl"), Apple Lane (RQ2) and some other Gloranthan classics (can I say that here without nuChaosium coming after me?). I enjoyed it so much, I've adopted it as my RQ of choice- and it was easy to convert/run on the fly with old RQ materials.
I've got nothing to do with the KS or OQ/Newt, I just happened to come across it while looking for character sheets.

I own the old print run of the Basic Openquest rules. I'm glad to see whatever legal issues these guys were having got settled. I was under the impression they weren't gonna be allowed to make Openquest any more.

I'm glad to see whatever legal issues these guys were having got settled. I'm backing this. OQ3 is supposed to be based on the Legend SRD instead of MRQ1 like OQ1 and OQ2. I'm not going to speculate on Newt's reasons for OQ3 beyond what he has publicly stated. There were no legal issues, and Legend is a much better system than MRQ1 was to be sure. I'm not sure how much that affects OQ, mind, because if I changed BLUEHOLME™ to the 5E SRD instead of 3.5E it wouldn't have any mechanical impact on the game - OQ is not at all like MRQ1, just like most OGL games are not like modern D&D. NuChaosium likes to spread false alarm about the Mongoose MRQ1 SRDs being illegal (and their all-encompassing ownership of anything Mythos-related). They don't have a leg to stand on, but it's annoying being trolled by them if you're an OGL publisher.

Yeah, I'm backing this too. This something I'd like a hardcopy of for at the table. I sold my original RQ collection years ago due to an extended layoff and I'd like to keep my Chaosium reprint "mint" for nostalgia's sake. I'll never be able to afford all my original Chaosium RQ and AH RQ3 items again, and I don't feel like giving the new company any more money.

Any KS is a gamble. I got the rulebook quickly, but waited 4 years (December 2015 to December 2019) for stretch goals to "complete" from NuChaosium's "RQ Classic". The fulfillment was a complete joke after the initial core book ,and never really completed because we were supposed to be able to get (at extra cost, of course) many, if not all of, the stretch goals available in print form at some point. Print availability has not happened for the classic books, yet they keep pumping out tons of new stuff.
For OQ, I'm only concerned about the core book PDF- His stretch goals products I'm not concerned about in the least.
