Much has been said about how bad the Disney Star Wars sequels are, and when Episode IX came out it was confirmed that they clearly had no plan whatsoever and were just winging it with each film.
When you learn about film making, watch or read any behind the scenes of even very successful films, you realize how difficult and what a miracle it is when a good movie actually gets made. It's a combination of luck, talent, and magic. So, a bad movie can be forgiven. Bad movies happen, it is art after all.
What it all comes down to, amid all the mistakes (and a few, very, very few, good decisions) there is one thing I will never be able to forgive those running the show for:
We didn't get a single scene with Han, Luke, and Leia together. Now, fans of every generation will never get to see that reunion.
This should have been a high priority from the very beginning, whatever the story, however the script develops, make at least that one scene happen.

I suppose computer graphics will become powerful enough that one day we'll get that reunion. But no matter how well done or convincing, it just won't be the same.
Did you hear the rumor that there is a George Lucas cut of Rise of Skywalker? I'd be curious to see it, but I don't know if I could sit through that movie again. I could hardly stand it the first time.

It's okay, rumor has it that Disney are already planning on retconning the whole thing. Much has been said about how bad the Disney Star Wars sequels are, and when Episode IX came out it was confirmed that they clearly had no plan whatsoever and were just winging it with each film. I knew that from the very first film: they had some nobody writing the script. Star Wars is too important to just throw to some lapdog, but what do I know? As long as Disney can sell lots of merch, that's all they care about.

It is truly baffling. They spent all that money to buy the IP, then threw away 40 years worth of stories and characters! Then claimed there was no comics or novels to use for adaptation. WTF?
Why not use fan favorite characters like Mara Jade, Admiral Thrawn, Kyle Katarn, etc.?
It's like Marvel saying you know those popular characters we have? Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc? yeah, we're just going to toss them out and make up a batch of unproven characters nobody cares about and spend hundreds of millions to make movies based on them. Then wonder why nobody buys the toys and merch.
Oh, and Star Wars land? Let's make it someplace that nobody ever heard of with a name that is hard to remember, instead of like, you know Tatooine and the Cantina!
Is this going to go down in history as how NOT to manage a multi-billion dollar franchise with hundreds of millions of fans?

Why not use fan favorite characters like Mara Jade, Admiral Thrawn, Kyle Katarn, etc.? My theory is that if they used those characters, they would have to pay royalties to Zahn, and whoever else, every time they print a lunch box or a backpack. I don't know if it's true or not, but it makes the most sense to me. Save a lot more money by creating your own IP. And you know that nobody loves saving money more than filthy, stinking rich white men.
