Several sites are reporting that former TSR, Pacesetter and West End Games artist Jim Holloway has died. The news apparently came directly from his son.

Heard this over on Facebook too. Condolences to his family. His Desert of Desolation covers are great. His Paranoia art was super fun, that kind of humor is missing from a lot of RPG art done these days.

This sucks. Holloway is synonymous with Paranoia for me. His art totally made that game.

Sad news. I always enjoyed his scenes of characters encountering monsters; it seemed to continue the work started by Sutherland. Stuff like the cover of B4 or back cover of S4 (posted below): Those Desert of Desolation covers may have been the first of his work that I saw, or perhaps B4. The Purple Worm on Martek is particularly stunning. He illustrated the interiors for the first Endless Quest book, the Dungeon of Dread, and the first Tolkien Quest book, the Night of the Nazgul, and those were first books of each of those series that I read. I never played the Paranoia RPG back in the day, but it certainly got my attention with his artwork.

RIP Mr. Holloway.
I was not as enamored of him in my youth, but over time came to appreciate his work so much.
His facial expressions were awesome. The pic of the Cleric in Dragon magazine wielding two maces beating up that Fighter.
Of course those facial expressions were perfect for Paranoia.
And ZARGON. My fave, most overlooked D&D villain of all time.

He also did some work on MERP for ICE. Oh, I didn't know that! I'll have to look it up.

Devil women are like the shining sun itself. Glorious to behold, but don't come too close.
RIP Jim. Gone but not forgotten. Very evocative cover art especially.
