You'll be drained by vampires and eaten by werewolves because you have neither garlic nor wolfsbane. But at least you have 3 months' supply of toilet paper, so good job, I guess.

Hah! I'm a hunter as well, though for the past two-plus decades we've been lucky to be able to hunt just a 10-minute walk from my parents' backyard. Sadly, that whole area surrounding their property was just sold to devleopers last year who are going to bulldoze the entire 200-plus acres of forest to put in an over 50 community. Because we need more of those instead of unspoiled natural woodlands and wildlife habitat.

When I was a kid we used to drive 5 miles outside Fairfax City, and you were in farm country- Where I used to hunt and fish on private property my friends bought townhouses after they finished college and got married. My dad's best friend owned the property and raised/trained gun-dogs on hundreds of acres. I literally Hunted and fished where my friends homes stand now. Everything is mass urban sprawl and you have to drive hours to farmland. NOVA has become DC-LITE. I live in The Abyss now (New England) and whenever I go home to visit family it's like an entirely new state and I have lost all desire to go back home- it's horrible. My childhood home was recently demolished and a multi million dollar mansion put on the property. I used to hop my back fence, and walk 75 yards to a creek and fish in it every day of summer vacation. Hunted squirrels, doves and ducks in the fall. Progress, my ass.

I also went to the store and picked up the Essentials. ...what? //hides This I do own- I think the Starter Set is a far better product- The (Lost Mines..) adventure is leaps and bounds better (Rich Baker, FTW) than the slow pace video game quests in the Essentials Kit. Really lackluster with no sense of excitement or urgency. On a positive note, the extra dice, DM screen, map and better layout, Character Creation of the rulebook make the Essentials Kit a great addition to the Starter Set for new DMs, or us Grogs who want to stick with "Basic" 5E.

I honestly don't consider Essentials a separate product from the Starter Set. It's where you go after you FINISH the Starter Set. Everything in it builds on what the Starter Set gives you. I agree, though, that Lost Mines is phenomenal. It's probably the best introductory campaign ever released.
In essence, if the Starter Set is D&D Basic, Essentials is D&D Expert.

They don't seem to be marketing it this way though. Clearly it's aimed at complete beginners with the adventure material provided in the Essentials Kit. If they were building off the Starter Set, we'd be looking at level 5ish Adventure materials (?) Personally I think it's just another way to get a new box set in stores like Target. FWIW- Perkins has said that in effect they thought they could build a better beginner set than the Starter Set was after 5 years of experience with 5E.

Yeah, there's some issues with Perkins' statement along those lines. The Essentials set CLEARLY assumes you have full familiarity with Phandelin, and thus have played through (or at least read) part of Lost Mines. Heck, it even directly references the Starter Set adventure in a couple places. I stand by my assertion that it's built to go WITH the Starter Set, not instead of it, and that it merely expands options and player advancement, just as the X did in the B/X sets.

It's pretty great, but I wouldn't use it instead of the Starter Set. I'd use it to enhance the Starter Set. It's best to own both, and for the $45 grand total for both sets, it's a pretty d**n solid version of 5e D&D stripped down to the nuts and bolts.

My Dad's business was in Arlington. We lived 20 miles west. Yup. Arlington...and Vienna, Fallschurch, DC itself, and probably other places: we moved a lot when in that area (father was Naval Intel/CIA during the Vietnam War). What a blur. I really envy people who grew up in one place, had friends all through childhood. It really sucked orc-balls to move around so much, like every few months or so.

I get the rice and pasta being cleaned out. I understanding buying out the canned goods and pasta sauces, vegetables like potatoes, frozen chicken breasts, and eggs. Hand cleaners, sure.
I just don't get buying 2 years worth of TP. Why?
Also, thanks to capitalism, I noticed shelves getting restocked quickly. Still, TP aisle thoroughly raided.

I don't get the whole TP either. I guess folks are just afraid of running out if they have to self-quarantine for a long time. But those of us who are healthy are suffering the consequences.

Yeah, two of the stores near my have zero TP in stock -- just one gigantic empty shelf -- but a sign of only one per customer. One what? Only one empty shelf per customer?
I wasn't panicked before, as I had a non-hoarded supply that I figured would last my wife and I for a while. Then my 20's daughter came back home from grad school (college is closed) and suddenly I have TWO women living in the same household. Now I might panic about our TP supply....

A lot of stores are imposing a limit on TP purchases per customer, now. This is a FAKE, but, honestly, the idea of people reading this, then running out onto the streets to burn their stashes, it pleases me in all the ways that it shouldn't.

The 2 year stockpile is crazy. If you're still tapping into your emergency stash 2 years from now, then by that time you'll have long since stopped caring about toilet rolls, and wished you had stockpiled in something with trade value instead, like coffee cans or salt. Or Hersheys.
