I've had very little quiet time to read it lately, but I've enjoyed the few bits I have. I'm going on vacay this week and bringing it with me for the hotel room- might get some time in the evenings or while my daughter and wife are at the pool.

I'm nearly done with this now. I enjoy the eclectic way you've mish-mashed things from AD&D, OD&D, OSR blogs and various real world and fictional sources into a single milieu, and I love the clear affection you still have for the Brown Chairs and the gaming sessions of yore. Some readers might be thrown off by the way the tone of the book seems to shift back and forth through different territory and presentation styles, but I've enjoyed it for my tastes. Providing all these usable maps and stat blocks for various characters makes entire sections of this world playable, such as in a printed module, but other areas of the book seem almost like blog posts or forum conversations. I note this only because it seems unique and different and that maybe not everyone would appreciate it as much as I do, but that shouldn't deter you one bit. It's fine the way it is, and it was worth publishing IMO. There's been a push among third-party RPG publishers to push this super slick, tightly edited, professional "modern" style and this feels more DIY punk to me in a way I appreciate and empathize with. Please keep on keeping on, good sir, and keep us all informed of any future work you are involved in!

Thanks to everyone who reviewed Dice or Die: Investigations into a Fantasy Campaign Milieu. I took this feedback very seriously and worked hard to integrate suggestions and comments into the text, and I have a better more cohesive book for it. Book is available on Amazon just in time as a Christmas stocking stuffer or perhaps just reading after the New Year's. Good gaming to everyone.

I'm still going through the book, since there's a lot of information to take in. But I am enjoying it a lot. It's definitely not for beginners, but there's a ton of information for even experienced DMs to mine.

I bought the book today. I've been on a bit of a game theory/history kick lately. I'm currently reading Peterson's Game Wizards and have Playing at the World and The Elusive Shift in the "to read" pile. Your book sounds like a nice edition to that pile so I went ahead and grabbed a physical copy at Amazon. Looking forward to checking it out!

Congrats on being a published author, by the way. That's an accomplishment! I can't say it's one I've achieved yet, though thanks to you I've now been quoted three times in a published work. (The others were a book about student activism and a novel by my kid brother about an interdimensional serial killer. The FBI agent assigned to monitoring my activities likely thinks he's onto something monumental, especially now with the Satanic D&D connection .)

Thanks! Good luck to you in your writing! I'm used to ubiquitous (imaginary?) FBI surveillance; my mom edited After Alinksy: Community Organizing in Illinois. And, importantly as well, she played in B1 as Presta the Magic User. Fight on!

I've submitted a new version of Dice or Die to kdp. It features an additional campaign, Myria Dia, and much tighter reasoning in many of the chapters. No longer a brain melt or scatter shot (this legit critique was addressed to the best of my ability), it's now a better juggernaut (I humbly submit) and available on Amazon for anyone who wants to see how it ended up. Fight on!

With the inclusion of my Myria Dia campaign, which is introduced with the start playable as is at the game table, Dice or Die is now a whopping 698 pages. With additional updates to several chapters: ante up, city factions, and others, the book secures substantive improvement. Available for $23.99 on Amazon at Dice or Die: Investigation into a Fantasy Campaign Milieu! Fight on!

I recently re-approached Dice or Die with good outcome. I added the quotes from the Best Single Paragraph and Favorite single sentence threads. Then I reviewed the first 125 dragon magazine, adding about 30 quotes from these. The results are impressive. Like driving screws into pre-drilled holes, the quotes exceptionally anchor the text into the true grit of OD&D, D&D Basic, and AD&D 1e. What was theoretical or untethered speculation or perhaps even reached for happenstance is now returned in spades as just supported, really hardcore D&D goodness!

Big news! Dice or Die 3rd edition is available. A provocative book to elicit responses from provocative people, 3rd edition is a complete overhaul of the previous edition. It is a heavyweight D&D tome, on task and creative, and never losing its focus on the subject matter. It's simply true that I could not have arrived at this pinnacle without first presenting the prior 2 editions with all their warts. Thanks again for the feedback. The 3rd edition transcends trouble spots in every imaginable way. The print version can be found here. Some of you mentioned length as a concern, so 3rd edition is also available as a kindle ebooks, here. The kindle version plays out over 10 parts with each as its own book, featuring an Iron Wind Metal stock photo as cover. Most are 50 - 80 pages, except Campaigns which is 220 pages. Very cool and highly recommended! Will reading Dice or Die increase your DM skill by 1 level no matter your prior level? Yes!

: the book Dice or Die is now gripping! I'm not sure I understand "gripping" in this context. My meaning is simply, "hard to put down" from start to fiinish! Have you ever had a go at creating digital art? The change of the brightness (or color) of a single pixel can sometimes dramatically alter the perspective of the whole work. I added the single word "brutal" to an early paragraph, and Presto! Much is revealed and much fun! Here it is from Investigation 2 News Story core area: Recently, in Ehan, local militia, augmented by shock constables in heavy armor, penetrated a Black Heart Thieves Guild, the meteoric, House Neogoen. Coldly arrayed in burnished steel, aquamarine capes, yellow helm plumes, and black shields, berserk Wolf Tooth cataphracts (evil F3) arrived with the crisp nude sun. They had ridden hard and brutal from Jstan on steaming mailed chargers. They were led by Bogob, the plated Seargent of the Battery (neutral F5).
In the attack that followed, forces of the law slaughtered many thieves. They also freed several brutally treated hostages, some from prominent families. Gaunt and near death and pained by a fresh sun but restive before the piling of the guild slain of House Neogoen, these rescued men told distressing tales of foul mistreatment and bad business deals. Hot urban rumor then followed the carted away bodies like a bad rash. And, above the city’s usual crowd rancor, harsh cries for revenge blasted across streets and down alleyways. In the early afternoon, before being routed by militia after hard-edged skirmish, an angry indignant Wolf Tooth mob, rabble and scions, alike, murderously attacked Black Heart business owners and set torch to their shops. Despite calls for restraint from warrior monks loyal to Saint Cuthbert, led by the redoubtable Arath (good Pal4), the riots persisted. By evening and after yet another state sponsored round of eam, a popular regional spirit along the Inn Road, heavy drunkenness swept away both Black Hearts and Wolf Tooths, alike. Also, the book parts used to be ordered as follows: classes, denizens, settlements, core areas, adversaries, geography, fantasy milieu, and campaigns. It now starts with core areas, then settlements, denizens, professions (was classes), adversaries, geography, fantasy milieu, and campaigns. This new ordering introduces game table action immediately by way of Part I core areas and relocates professions as Part IV, or the solar (career: cleric, fighter, wizard, rogue) position, which is very satisfying. Voila, the tie in is to the Introduction and the first Investigation ante up and the rest of the book - Denny Crane!
