Is there a way we can get a layout of this place? From what I understand, Janet is probably being held in some place with heavy security. We'll have to scope them out eventually.

Hmm, this is one of the areas I've always struggled with for Traveller, coming up with reasonable maps for every new star port. There are actually very few star port maps. There was a nice article in White Dwarf but it also came off as too standardized (and just covers the star port). Judge's Guild's 50 Star Bases has 50 star port maps, but they generally don't seem to show too much city and are just a bit wacky... If anyone has any thoughts for a good resource for this, I'm all ears...

So this was formerly a Class-C star port but with the shuttering of the repair facilities there is but a single fuel depot dispensing unrefined fuel. The passenger terminal has been reduced to a single lounge with a bulletin board for posting of passages desired and passages offered. There is just the one bar in port and a couple more in the city. Much of the city lies abandoned with a the population having been reduced from some 150,000 to more like 60,000 after the Imperium pulled out. Pretty much anyone with any wealth or technology left, leaving the populace at TL 3. There is some kind of religious institution that has taken over responsibility for the city and the world.
So where someone might be held, there are lots of abandoned buildings and it's not clear what the mission of the religious folks is here...

Sounds like we'd better do our research on this religious institution. Even if they're not behind the abductions, they may not take kindly on outsiders asking too many questions, let alone breaking down doors.

Agreed. Let's split up and cover all the angles. I'll ask around for whatever building or institution the religion uses as a Front Office, and ask them directly about themselves, as an interested visitor: basic questions at first like church structure, basic beliefs, how they involve themselves in government, how many of them are there. Harmless stuff you could get from their pamphlet tract.

Are we all going as a group, or shall we split up? Considering the hostility of some of the natives, we'd better not go alone. Groups of 2-3 people may be enough, if we bring our weapons.

Maybe one group to do some street investigation of the cult, another group to check into flight logs, and two more groups to tail each of the investigators in case they get into trouble? You know, like the Perry Mason trick, where he'd hire his PI to follow behind so he could tail whomever he found tailing Mason.

I would suggest that Mother would also tail or accompany Sharon.
Logan was at port control before, and would go back with Henry. Victor would also be a good choice for that role.

Sharon's group will scour the streets, poking around for whatever front the religion has with the public. A church, administrative building, whatever. If we can find the public face of the cult we'll just try to find out as much as we can through that, asking innocent questions about what they believe, how they run their church, how they run the government, do they have any official political stances, do they have a headquarters, etc.
But, before we do that, we'll mosey around town looking for the least unpleasant looking bar, where we can milk the locals for the same information with some rounds of drinks.

Henry was going to port control, perhaps with Logan and Victor. With Streetwise, Zebulon might be a good fit for the first team.

For the first team, I'd like Sharon to be the one hanging back with someone else, looking inconspicuous, to shadow any shadows we might pick up. Zeb should be a good fit for the front pair, so maybe Zeb and Mother up front, Sharon and Jack running watch?

At Port Authority, nothing other than the Smooth Sally, the Vargr ship and your ship show up as recent arrivals in the logs. Do you want to press further about Pablo (you already have some info on his arrival here - see back in the thread or the notes I've collected in the Google Doc).
The local religion does have a small office in the port, but they seem most focused on controlling the local populace's access to the port. Polite conversation and examination of a brochure can easily be read between the lines that the religion really is basically a front for an Oligarchy type government. Since Bastinadi is off the trade routes, they really seem to be bent on just keeping the local population happy and presenting a happy face to any travellers who show up. They ask if you have any cargo you wish to sell. They have a TL 8 harvester they are selling that is just too much to maintain. Price 150kcr (average price), weight 10 tons.

I have collected more of the information you have on Bastinadi in the Google Doc.
Note that with Law Level 0 and a Class D star port, your carrying and use of weapons is unlikely to elicit much response unless you directly threaten the star port authority or the church authority.
From what you gather from the research at the University of Ludgates library and Lukasz own research, the church is basically some kind of psionics institute. The question of finding it and finding out what happened to Janet and extracting her could be achieved in a variety of ways. The actual institute is likely to be well defended by a small cadre, but infiltration is also an option.
As to hunting down Pablo hault-Sergiones, the best bet is to seek contact with the native population (TL 3). Some small number live in the "city" adjacent the star port, but most live in the outback.
Note that you have Bribery, Forgery, Gambling, Streetwise, and Religion skills among the "crew", but that need not limit your plans.
