For those of you with Netflix, I recommend a recent release entitled The King. It's about King Henry and his rise to power, including the Battle of Agincourt. There's certain amount of creative license in regards to history, but was overall a good film.

Watched it tonight, after coming home from the bar. Ended up almost pulling a one-nighter because I became so enthralled - a good and atmospheric, if not always even movie. I wanted to see way more of Falstaff, and I thought the last ten minutes of the movie (no spoilers here yet, but basically, after the material from Shakespeare ends) were a bit silly. - But overall, fun, well done, and, most importantly, showing that the people who made the movie had fun with the material: Robert Pattinson, for example, who most of us remember as that dreadful sparkly vampire, has one of the best roles of his career. For many years, movies like this weren't made any more; I'm glad they're back.

Is it the kind of film that my wife might like, or is it more for history buffs?

As Raf said, it creates good atmosphere- a fair picture of the time period. It's not a soap opera, but does include intrigue, turmoil, and emotional ties. In my opinion, the film could stand on it's own. Yet, it does have some historical appeal. For those that enjoy the time period it also touches on the tactics and perspectives of war.

Is it the kind of film that my wife might like, or is it more for history buffs? The movie's a twist on Shakespeare's Henry IV, Henry V, and The Merry Wives of Windsor, sort of like "Chimes at Midnight", the old Orson Welles film. So, basic knowledge of these plays (Falstaff is supposed to be a drinker and an unintentional fool, Prince Hal/Henry has anger management issues, and, of course, "yadda yadda St Crispin's Day yadda yadda band of brothers") might be useful. Besides that, though, the movie is pretty straightforward, and, because of the focus on the protagonists (as opposed to the setting), I guess a really good watch particularly if you're normally not into these things.
