Some people are offering FO! free advertising. The price is right for our endeavor. Something like Lee's flyer could be a great ad, or just a cover image and a link to the website, I don't know. Anyway, if anyone wants to make up some, that would be a welcome contribution.

I can offer my design craft for ads using those old-skool illustrations I've done. May I ask who is involved?
On a side note, I attended most of the seminars at GENCON related to publishing in the RPG genre. I'm convinced that Fight On's use of new technology for digital and physical distribution is the way to go. Some myriad advice gleaned includes: 1) Find and involve your market niche. 2) Turn these fans into steady customers with your product line. 3) Take advantage of new media advertising like Podcasts. 4) Reinforce your product line with free/cheap digital PDFs. 5) Balance content - don't let everything be for just DMs or such. 6) Try to have "open commenting" on a forum or blog.

4) Reinforce your product line with free/cheap digital PDFs. Sorry to thread jack but this caught my eye. Do you think making one of the articles from each issue a free download, might be worth it to reel in those people that are riding the fence on whether or not to pick this up? You know, a little taste to get them hooked. Or is it more reasonable to stick with Lulu's preview option? Once again, sorry about the thread jack. /Thus Endeth the Hijacking

I have no marketing expertise, so I'm just reporting on what I heard from Steve Wieck (DriveThruRPG) at the seminar.
I inferred that having a cluster of digital products would attract more buyers, especially over time. The customer that buys the latest/cheapest product "Z", will be inclined to also buy "X" and "Y" if he enjoyed the first experience.
Steve mentioned that the "Gold Medal" products on his site are often older releases that keep racking up sales because of this cross-linked marketing. Furthermore, when a new item is ready for release, his service can send emails to buyers of the initial products.
For a magazine, this negates the loss of profit stemming from older issues becoming unavailable. The free "samples" would build hype for the current issue and could also include reprints to show the interesting things already out.

Thanks, apoleverage! Actually, Barrataria contacted us personally about this same offer, which is what got this all started. :-)
