So, you may not all have been keeping up with this, but Steve Jackson recently re-acquired the rights to his first RPG: The Fantasy Trip. He's putting out a new edition with all new artwork by Liz Danforth (who did the art in the original), and reformatted text (though the rules will be essentially the same). The Kickstarter just went live and they've already met their funding goal. I think I'm gonna back this one!

Welp, I backed it (one of the very big ones, BTW) and am excited. EDIT: The support for this is nothing short of surprising: the flood of backers has unlocked a virtual torrent of stretch-goal goodies, and the boxed sets will be positively bursting at the seams with added material. This is gonna be good!

As of this date the KS is at $195,105! It will likely surpass the $200K mark before it ends. Pretty amazing results. *shock*

Thank you for posting this, I would have likely missed out if you hadn’t. Just backed it!

When does it end? I've been hearing about it on several boards now...

I believe it ends on 8/24. Most of the extras have been unlocked, but I would not be surprised if more were added.

Nice! Now it just needs its own miniatures line!

I'm tempted to join it, but really don't think that I'd ever actually play the thing. Funny, because a lot of folks have posted similar thoughts on various boards I read; the notion is that one SHOULD back it because it is so old school, but they aren't likely to play it because it's so basic. Hmmmm. EDIT: Just looked at the prices for this thing … yikes!

EDIT: Just looked at the prices for this thing … yikes! Do it for the kids! Imagine their wide-eyed surprise when they open the box and see all the colourful goodies! TFT isn't D&D, of course, but a modest, tactical hex-combat game could be a gateway drug for more sophisticated RPGing. Liz Danforth (also known for her great art for T&T) is doing all-new art for this project, and from what I've seen it's freakin' awesome.

I had decided to back at $25 because you get a butt ton of material in PDF.
Then it was pointed out that $30 (plus shipping) gets you the butt ton of PDF PLUS Melee and Wizard in physical form...
I'm happy to back old school games at reasonable prices when you get a good amount of material in PDF, I like having access to all this stuff even if I might never play it.

I was in the same place, and went back and forth several days before backing. I eventually landed on a real obscure use for it in my current campaign which gave me the ‘justification’ to splurge a little Does anybody remember the wizard game with Erasmus in Hero’s Quest...er Quest for Glory? The EGA version (and the best version) of course. So I plan to use it as a mini game much like that scenario from time to time. Told ya it was obscure! I also heard the Labyrinth piece was a really good resource.

Well, a couple of days left so I can still ponder. I agree that it would be fun to have...

I have one of the original Melee sets (the one with the gargoyle on the cover with his willy hanging out) and I enjoyed playing it now and then back in the day. The boxed edition in this Kickstarter looks pretty amazing. Also, it will make a great home for my old copies, if there's any room left in the box! Backed it as soon as I read the original post, thanks Vlad!

I had bet that it wouldn't get over $220K.
Looks like I owe somebody a beer.... *facepalm*

With any luck we may crack the 300K mark before the closing bell. *crosses fingers*
