Good, sounds like we have a consensus, I will roll encounters and such later today, or more likely tomorrow.

On your way out to the jump limit, a Free Trader is coming in. You detect that it is actively scanning your ship.

Mother suggests that we change our vector to start putting distance between us and them. {I believe that we have the same acceleration factor, so that should prevent any close contact at least... since we're unarmed.}

They might be friendly and have information or rumors to pass along to us in exchange for us passing a few back. However, we should also change our vector away from them. Keeping our distance should reassure them if they are just worried we might be unfriendly.

Also, we should scan them right back.

Also, we should scan them right back. Agreed. And let's hail them to see what they want. Does our ship have any weapons?

No, we can't afford any weapons.

Hailing them, the captain responds curtly, not saying much. You get the impression he doesn't like the Scout service.

I think we should be on our way then. Can we tell from our scans if his ship armed?

I think we should be on our way then. Can we tell from our scans if his ship armed? I'll assume you have Mother on comms gear (she has Electronic-1), she is unable to determine from the scans if the other ship is armed (5 + 1)

Fine, ignore them then. We couldn't tell them anything useful about the local conditions anyway.
We'll just proceed to jump point and be about our business.

Ok, you run out to the jump limit and into jump you go.
Does anyone want to do any role play during the time in jump?
Does anyone who has not yet attempted to start a training program wish to do so?

I'm not sure if everyone is clear on training programs...
There are training options that you can attempt that totally happen in the character's downtime. You may attempt to improve any two skills one level (including increasing gun or blade skills from 0 to 1) or work on a physical fitness program. All you need to do is decide what you'd like to try and work on and then I roll to see if you are dedicated enough to stick with the program.
As to role play, as long as I have it clear what the next step is, role play can continue on the side without slowing things down, I just wanted to give a quick opportunity since from the game mechanics standpoint, the week of jump is handled by a couple rolls and then it's done... So if I just blew through it, the opportunity for some role play would be blown by.
Later today I'll go ahead and check for hijacking and arrival encounters (no misjump since you have a newly serviced ship and as a scout ship there's no worry about unrefined fuel).

Well in that case... Mother will work on Engineering and Gunnery (if that's even possible on an unarmed ship... otherwise, she'll work on obtaining Computer). Sharron will work on Sword and Revolver.

IIRC, PCs automatically have level 0 in brawling and all weapon skills. Is that the case in your campaign?
If so, Zeb will practice Blade (he got one when he was mustered out) and Brawling.

Yes, in the past, I hadn't necessarily included Brawling, but it's totally reasonable. Interestingly, the way skills are organized in 1977 Book 1, one could argue Gunnery is included (the 1/2 level - later changed to 0 - is in a section on Weapon Expertise which includes Brawling, Blade Combat, Gun Combat, and Gunnery). And 1981 doesn't change the organization... The Traveller Book is slightly different, but still can easily be read to include Gunnery. So guess what, all PCs have Gunnery-0... So yes, Mother could train in Gunnery, if you had at least a turret and fire control... You need not start the training program immediately, so she might desire to wait until you have a setup to be able to train gunnery.

Is there any way to acquire a Level 0 in a skill, or is training completely limited to raising a skill you already have a 0+ level in? Assuming no, Logan will work on Auto Pistol and Shotgun, he has both and raising them from 0 to 1 makes sense.

BTW, on your last day in port:
A courier ship just came in with news that Tegel Starport is under threat, Ryefield, capital of the Roglaroon Federation and the city surrounding Tegel Starport was captured by forces from Modron.

Oops, I don't think we ever ran the midnight raid on the clinic... Hmmm. I'd have to go back up-thread and re-read (no time at the moment - on my way to my 50th b-day party... blech ), but I thought we opted to abandon that plan??
