And you thought I was going to let you all just bask in the glory!
(Seriously, take a bow, contributors, this wouldn't be happening without you!)
This is the planning thread for Issue #3.
Articles/Art We're Hoping To Get - Any stuff from surviving Judges Guild-connected people. We'd love something from James Mishler and I think we'll be able to swing another piece from Geoff Dale. Who else is still out there from the glory days who we might be able to invite aboard? - A photo of Bob Bledsaw - I would like a picture of a pegasus, perhaps a mounted pegasus, as homage art. This has to be B&W because we already have a cool cover for #3. - Melan's Fomalhaut campaign overview - Zulgyan's Battle Robots - Victor's finished version of The Wilderness Architect, including Part IV. - New Columns - anyone have a submission for Knights & Knaves? - I think Kesher's finishing out DD with halflings, we might get another Mistworld thing from Mr. Marsh (have to check in on this), we might get another World of Oceania, definitely will have Age of Fable back with some new tables...speaking of which... - I would like a cool Random Reincarnation/Polymorph Chart. Anyone have something like this? My old gold standard is the one in the Arduin Grimiores but it seems like this is something we could take another crack at. Fiend of the Pit should be an entry on this. - Humor! Lord, I'm desperate for more funny stuff. Bring it on, please! Too bad the 'Hackman and Munchkin' guy got chased off... - Whatever you can think of that's cool! - Some fun secret stuff I'm working on...plus level 2 of The Darkness Beneath, which I will write but which I need some map help on...any volunteers?
Articles We Have That We're 90%+ Sure Will Go In Issue #3 (if I've forgotten something you submitted, remind me!) - Baz Blatt's Tekumel adventure (if not, his demon article for sure) - Melan's Oracle - Rainsford's "How to Run A Good Con Game" Editorial - At least one winner of the adventure contest - Jeff Rients' Reviews of Encounter Critical & Mazes & Minotaurs (if there were another review or two from other folks that would be OK too)
Articles/Art We Have That May Go In Issue #3 - Baz Blatt's Demon Article (see above) - David Bowman's Darkness Beneath Level 3 - Andrew Reyes' Map of Seroyan; Lee Barber's Ogre Pic (maybe this guy could be a cool "Knight & Knave?")
Ooh, please don't feel left out if you don't see something you sent in up there, just let me know. I already have front and back covers for issue 3, more or less, but will need tons of B&W art as usual.
If you want to bounce ideas for articles off me here or correct the above in some way, post ahead!

You'll get a short (2-3 pages) "A Fool and his Life are Easily Parted" kind of adventure from me. When's the deadline?

The "Fomalhaut campaign overview" is my expected contribution; correct. The map, alone, is d**n good if I say so myself, but I'm also really happy with the material. I originally wanted to write about the City State of Glourm, a city in my campaign, but then I wrote this, and thought, "people will love this thing". So...

Hey Cal,
I have not been chased off by you guys at all. I still love the board and the magazine. I've just not had a lot to say recently. I've been thinking of some stuff though for the magazine, so I'll be in touch with a couple of ideas.

Thanks everyone for the great responses. David, I'll be in touch if you can stand drawing some more twisty caves. Those adventures sound awesome...I hope we don't fill up with more than we can print! But James, you say yours is short, and Rob yours is perfect for the issue, so send 'em along by all means!
Hackman, sorry for the confusion, there was another poster who wanted to write a comic called "Hackman and Munchkin" (IIRC) about an old-school fighter and a 3e-type fighter in spiky armor adventuring together. At the time there was a poster who got really offended by that idea (!) and the ensuing discussion sort of drove that guy off. (Unless it was you? That would be really funny.) Anyway, comics and humor are something we need more of, so hopefully we'll get that. Maybe another installment of "Education of a Magic User" could come along? Anyway, we'd love to see more of your stuff when you have time.

If people want a deadline date to shoot for, let's say September 1.

I was planning on submitting a large-ish stand-alone adventure, if that's of interest.

I'd like to submit a xenobestiary for Mutant Future, to include a couple things already posted to my blog and several others. That something you can use? I would like a cool Random Reincarnation/Polymorph Chart. Anyone have something like this? My old gold standard is the one in the Arduin Grimiores but it seems like this is something we could take another crack at. Fiend of the Pit should be an entry on this. Time permitting I'll try and put together a reincarnation/polymorph chart. Not familiar with Hargrave's version, so are you just looking for a stat free/rules light list of transformations here?

Calithena can correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought he wanted to avoid articles that required the use of the OGL, which a Mutant Future bestiary almost certainly would.

Let me know, Cal, and if a specifically MF article is a non-starter, how do you like statless mutants?

James, I'd love a long-ish adventure from you. Whether we can get it into issue 3 depends on how long-ish all the other submissions are, and for the first time adventures are not going to be the hardest thing for me to get, but in principle it sounds great.
Beasts statted up using Mutant Future as a baseline inspiration would be grand, Max - send those in by all means. Whether they'll actually be published for Mutant Future is something I'll have to figure out in the coming months. Dan Proctor, a totally cool guy, has given us permission to refer to Labyrinth Lord and publish things 'for' it without using the OGL. This has been somewhat academic up to now but I'll have to figure it out. Either way, though, cool post-apoc monsters are exactly what the mag needs, so send them in!
Glad to hear our comic is coming back!

James, I don't know if you'd be interested in doing something city-themed - maybe a short city adventure, encounter tables, a neighborhood description, etc. - but since issue #3 is the Bledsaw tribute issue I think city-themed stuff is something we might be a little short on. Other people interested in that sort of thing could pursue it as well.
Max, the random reincarnation/polymorph chart can be stat-free, it's just a list of things you might reincarnate as or polymorph into. I'd like to see both the 'naturalistic' entities on more standard charts of this type as well as some wild and wooly stuff - some gonzo in there for sure. Would that interest you?
Everyone, there are going to be lots of submissions for issue 3, especially if jreints and James Mishler (who apparently is on board, though not until after GenCon - awesome!) find more of the old JG guys to contribute stuff. I will find a way to use all good submissions eventually, but I can't guarantee that everything good submitted will find it's way into an issue any more. That's a price of success - rejecting problematic submissions is easy, it's deferring good stuff that's hard. We will use everything that comes in, but I can't guarantee that it will be in the very next issue any more. To make issue #2 work I already had to defer stuff from stellar contributors who had multiple submissions. This is a price of success, but at least we're having some success!

Cool! Don't make it shorter than it has to be though - your stuff is always excellent.

September 1st deadline. Ok, I am going to try to write up something for Issue#3 and I know someone who may be able to do some B&W art. So I will try to have one or the other or both into you by the deadline.

I will indeed be finishing off "Devil's in the Details" with halflings, and will otherwise focus on providing artwork for #3.
Zulg, if you do battle robots, I would love to draw one...

I can contribute a Judges Guild style map and gazeeteer That would be sweet! To sweeten the pot it will be tied to the Wilderlands. I just got permission from Bob Bledsaw Jr to use the needed entries from Wilderlands of High Fantasy. Map 19 The Wild North Placement is north of old Map 5/ new Map 2 Valon
