Hi all -
The new issue of FO! is ready but it keeps crashing my computer when I try to make an 88 page PDF using PDFmaker. Does anyone have a really fast machine and the right software? It would help if you had published with lulu before because you need to put specific settings into PDFmaker, I can probably figure those out again if I have to.
Please contact me ASAP if you can help.
- Cal

Actually, there's another problem - it's a 30 MB file and not even Gmail will let me attach it and mail it. Criminy. I'm going to see if maybe I can convert two seperate 44 page PDFs and stick them together...

Two files might not be enough (I use Yahoo mail and that only allows 10 meg of attachments.) Does Lulu have an FTP site at all? That might work better.

Yeah, Cal, two won't do it (if you're trying to send it through gmail); it only accepts 10 meg attachments, too.
Is there some way to host it so someone could download it?

What program are you doing layout in?
I use Openoffice which lets me export as a pdf with bookmarks. Of course, I don't think that I've had a file that big before.

Is there some way to host it so someone could download it? I think you can upload up to 100MB to a free file hosting account with yousendit or box.net, and then email a link to whoever has the capability to put together the pdf for you.

I am trying to assemble the PDF out of pieces by myself. Pages 45-88 compiled as a single unit, but there's stuff in the first half my computer really doesn't like. 30-34 is taking forever right now, it's 8 megs for 5 pages...I just don't get it. But I do think I'm going to be able to do this myself....I'll keep people posted!

I worked it all out and ordered my proof copy. So we'll know in a week or so!
Now I just need to get all those contest entries organized...remember, this weekend is the deadline!

You rock, Cal!
And you are one busy, busy man...
(or do you make Ignatius do all the grunt work?)

I have Adobe Pro 7 and if you can upload it to the suggested site I could download it and give it a try. I will be back Sat night.

No, the Ig is my boss. I am the grunt.
But, it's in there. I think it's going to be OK. Thanks Crim, but it's on lulu now, I just need to find out if it looks OK, which means I have to wait for my copy to arrive. Woof.
Issue #2 content-wise has a lot of cool stuff in it, no doubt. We've reached a threshold. I basically cut a lot of editorial/ideological stuff in #2 so that we could just have a huge rain of good content, but in subsequent issues I'm going to make sure to have all the editorials, reviews, etc. This one is basically just basking in all the old-school goodness. There are four dungeons, all of them with a lot to recommend them (by Melan, Hackman, Maliszewski, and Edsan), and five 'guest star' contributors: Dave Arneson, Vincent Baker, Geoffrey O. Dale, Patrick Farley, and Steve Marsh. So this issue's got a lot of good stuff. Plus of course me and Rients and and Kesher and the most of the old crew from #1 (even snuck a couple little things of Zulg's in there - you better get me those battle robots next time!), and some new folks as well.
I'm really blown out by how much work it was. But hopefully things will get easier now that we're ahead on content.
