Does anyone know of a good treasure generator for OD&D? It'd save me a lot of time while populating my megadungeons. I haven't been able to find a good one anywhere; the closest I could get is this, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm less concerned about generating hoards for outdoor encounters and more interested in generating treasure as per the table on page 7 of U&WA. I've even been tinkering with making an excel spreadsheet of my own for such a purpose, but I must admit that I'm not particularly good at it. Ideally, I'd like some sort of program or application that generates all my treasure values with one click (i.e. coins, # and value of gems and jewels, and specific magic items).

Actually, WaysOfTheEarth wrote a program that implements OD&D Treasure generation completely, as described in Vol. II, pp. 22-40. He did this quite some time ago, using the Palamedes probability language I wrote. Through no fault of his, it only works 99%; it fails 1% of the time because of bugs in Palamedes---entirely my fault. I meant to debug this program and get it working, but I keep getting distracted. Now that I know someone else is interested, I'll get my lazy butt into gear and start working on it again! I'll post back here when it is working.

Love the castle generator. Me too! Makes my life a lot easier. However, it's slightly imprecise; I've rolled up castles ruled by Patriarchs served by vampires...hard to explain that, really.

BTW everybody, this link above is AWESOME! I am prepping a wilderness campaign for the OS board and it is helping IMMENSELY. I never thought I could plan an entire wilderness. The OS board has 23 castles, 20 lairs, 9 villages and 8 dungeons. The idea of stocking all that in advance was too daunting even to start. Not now, thanks to mr. josh bear (whoever he is!). If anybody wants a copy of my key when I finish it, let me know.

Thanks, everyone! The basic stocking of large areas is exactly what pushed me to build these tools.
Patriarchs with vampires are a bug; I'll see if I can track that down. That happens when the castle result is for Evil High Priest but the alignment isn't passed to the cleric builder.
I've lurked this board off and on for quite a while. Please do email me with any suggestions or bug reports. If you would like a free license for the code let me know - I keep meaning to copyleft it and just have'nt settled on a license.

I have updated mrjoshbear.net/odd-referee.htmlChaotic Clerics now have reversed versions of Cleric spells. Castles of Evil High Priests now always have Evil High Priests and not Patriarchs. Gems and jewelry in treasures are now generated individually, grouped, and sorted. White space in treasure generally cleaned up. Future Plans: Sort encounter NPCs by level. Add statlines to encounters. Add other encounter groups like the experimental bandits (major effort). Add pop-up preferences page. Add preference toggle for whether high level clerics may be neutral Add preference toggle for dexterity modifier applying to armor class. Add preference toggle for including Delta's Thief castles in castle generator. Add preference toggle for generating NPC Cleric items strictly RAW or the slightly more generous current version. Add preference toggle for forcing NPC sword alignment to match the NPC's alignment. Add preference toggle for forcing NPC alignment to match encounter base monster type alignment.

It's definitely helpful. Unfortunately it has a couple problems. I had PM'd MrJoshBear about it a long time ago, but he doesn't seem to have addressed the issue yet, so you should know if you use this utility, there is an issue with the treasure types. BTB (M&T p23), whenever a result of "any" comes up in the "MAPS/MAGIC" column of a treasure type, there is a 25% chance that the result will be a map (Specifically on a roll of 76 -00).
So, for example, Treasure Type G which gives "any 4" on a positive result, ought, statistically, to average 1 map per positive result. I've the treasure generator dozens of times and have yet to generate one map.
Note that this problem does not affect "unguarded" dungeon treasures as found in U&WA 7. That part of the utility seems to work fine.
Of course, you can just do a manual substitute 25% of the time to fix the issue.
Another thing I noticed is that magic swords sometimes get the same power twice. For instance, here is one I got:
Chaotic Sword +1 Int: 9 Ego: 6, Empathy Detect Traps Detect Meal & What Kind See Invisible Objects See Invisible Objects

Thanks for the feedback, aldarron - I don't log in to this board often. I'll see if I can get a fix for the maps - the map table has been implemented and they are included on Type A Water treasures, so I think there is just a missing 25% check on that.
I had thought doubling-up on sword powers was allowed, but I might have misread that. It should probably at least account for that possibility and instead have a (x2) notation or something instead of just having double entries.

This is a great tool, I've had it bookmarked since first seeing it (probably in this thread). Though right now it appears as though the castle generator is stuck on "Aelfberg."

I've pushed some changes...
Added a TLS cert to the site; it'll become mandatory at some point Added an unlicense declaration to all of the .js files - so they're all free to use, unencumbered Added experimental/incomplete dragon encounter generator - should be very close to RAW, but messy Added sword names Fixed castle names Fixed maps not appearing in treasure hoards - this is messy and needs some formatting TLC
Preferences is still WIP. I'm also ruminating on buccaneer/pirate, lycanthrope, giant, elf, and dwarf encounters - that covers most of the interesting cases. At some point I need to do another pass cleaning up the formatting in general. I may switch back to having it output as HTML instead of plain text. Does anyone have a strong opinion on that?

A great set of tools, thanks for your work on these MrJoshBear. I generally prefer the utility of text output, but I don't feel strongly either way for this. One can still copy text that is output via HTML in a browser, so there is likely not much difference between the two other than visual.
