My GH print says 1-16!
Now, is it supposed to be 1-6? or 2-16? Or (zots!) what it says?
Anyone have a different printing with a different damage listing?

Mine says that too. Strange that I hadn't noticed that. Perhaps you're supposed to roll a twenty-sider and reroll all results above 16? Or you could just house-rule it to two eight-siders and call it a day...

5d4 gives a range of 1-16.

Um, I'm no math guy, but wouldn't 5d4 give you a range of 5-20? I have to imagine that it's simply a misprint for 2-16...

5d4 gives a range of 1-16. yeah, one control die to determine how many of the other d4s to roll.

5d4-4 is 1 - 16, but I'm sure that's not what was meant. Probably 1-6, but maybe 1-12, which is what the 1E MM has listed. The MM is almost OD&D+.

Yes yes I meant 5d4-4 is 1-16, I got distracted by my kids while I was typing that out.

Interestingly, I just happened to be looking at the Ready Ref sheets a few minutes ago and, in the monster compendium section, unicorn horn damage is listed as--you guessed it--1-16...

The WOTC reprint also still has 1-16.
I think it's a typo for 2-16, but have absolutely no evidence for that whatsoever.
(Then again, I'm content to stick with 1d6 per hit for most circumstances...)
