Alphabetized per spell level.
Index or ref sheet with alphabetical list with p. # of description.

The correct OD&D by-the-book answer should be "by level but not alphabetized." Sadly, that wasn't one of my options.

Alphabetized per spell level. Index or ref sheet with alphabetical list with p. # of description. Yeah, I assumed alphabetised within the by-level option. I agree with list as well as ref sheet, but if the list directly precedes the by-class, alphabetised-by-level descriptions I think the page number is overkill. If you have all the lists first, then maybe, but I'd put each class spell list in front of each set of class spell descriptions. The correct OD&D by-the-book answer should be "by level but not alphabetized." Sadly, that wasn't one of my options. With good cause, clearly!

For any kind of Players' Reference they should be listed by level, preferably one spell level per page.
For the DM, both types of listing would be useful. If they are listed by spell level, there should be an alphabetized index with the page numbers. Or Vice-versa.

By level. Definitely by level. I thoroughly loathe all the spells jumbled together in one giant alphabet soup.

I could go either way, but lean maybe 2% more towards all alphabetized together.

I go with alphabetized together, but I also think that D&D-style spells are extremely well-suited to being put in a searchable database. Without that, I’d go with alphabetized by level.

Alphabetized per spell level. Index or ref sheet with alphabetical list with p. # of description. I voted by Level, but it's always nice to have an Excel spreadsheet that does both as above. --Ron--

In the end, I voted for by class and level.
But I absolutely hate to look up a spell and be referred to another class and level for the description. (One of the many reasons I have really grown to hate AD&D.)

It seems to me that an OD&D spells chapter could easily be organised by class and level, because the word count for each description can be small enough to be repeated multiple times over the different classes. I'm currently writing up OD&D-based spells for my G&G™ project, and I find that you can still trim down the wordage of the original descriptions quite a bit. The more complex spells with longer descriptions don't tend to repeat across classes, so that wouldn't be an issue.

Yes, it's best to simply repeat the spell.
