I just recently released a book of spells inspired by the originals in Men & Magic but reimagined. It includes simple rules for playing without spell levels but keeps things concise and within the spirit of the original game. At least that was my goal. There are also some spell catastrophes and enchanted treasures. It's illustrated throughout by new Russ Nicholson art, such as this guy: (I hope it's okay to post this announcement here. Just let me know if there is a better place. It seems appropriate to board interests and I thought people would be interested, but I don't want to spam either.) lostpages.storenvy.com/collections/980454-necropraxis

I bought the PDF a couple of days ago. Haven't read all of it yet, but I'm enjoying it and like the new spell system. And the Nicholson art.

This is really great. I need to write up a review. I'd definetly switch to this system the next time I run a straight up OD&D game. The spells are way more interesting.

Sounds interesting. Any chance of a preview or sample spell?

Fin, here are two; gleam, the Diabolism replacement for light, and chariot of air, the Elementalism replacement for fly.
Gleam Conjure a hovering magical spirit of radiance that does not shed heat, does not require air, and is not doused by water. A gleam per level may be summoned and the illumination of each is similar to torchlight. Gleams may be directed to bedevil enemies, which will cause temporary blindness if a saving throw is failed as long as the spirit remains engaged.
Chariot of Air A tumult of air elementals, prismatic and cacophonous, bears the sorcerer aloft and in any direction desired. Buffeted this way and that, no subtle action may be taken or communication attempted over the roar and incoherent babbling of the winds. Despite the many voices they have stolen, these creatures communicate by caresses and only madly wail in confusion if not in contact with the sorcerer.

Looks cool. I like the art from that pic anyways.
I do think the spell choices get a little stale sometimes.
