I'm finally catching up on my reading of some of the Zeitgeist Games Blackmoor products (Riders of Hak, Temple of the Frog).
When I read this stuff, my first step is to mentally strip away all of the 3E parts and focus on the text and background.
I guess what I'm wondering is: just how close to old Blackmoor is any of this?

You raise an interesting question Fin! I would love to hear the opinion of the original Blackmoor players or even Dave himself on to what degree the ZGG books reflect the Blackmoor that was played by Dave himself. Personally I think it should be taken into consideration that the books are being produced by Dave's company, which to an extent at least makes them Dave's products. The fact that they are being produced for 3E ofcourse does have an impact on the way they are being written. I do the same thing you do, try to filter out the crunch stuff and focus on the background which is what interests me the most. Another interesting thing about the ZGG books is that they seem to have accepted much of what Dave Ritchie added to Blackmoor in the DA-series. That might be interesting from a strictly OD&D/FFC perspective. In any case I am glad to see the flame of Blackmoor being kept alive by Dave's company and I will continue to support ZGG as long as they keep making Blackmoor material Havard

I guess what I'm wondering is: just how close to old Blackmoor is any of this? I am afraid that I can't answer your question on this. I don't remember Svenny ever interacting with the Peshwa, although I know that they were part of the setting because of Peshwan na Shepro joining one of their clans. I don't remember ever adventuring with him, though. I participated in the original Temple of the Frog adventure, but my strongest memory of the adventure was when Dave brought in a hugh ceramic frog from his mother's garden to use as the temple (it was more than a foot across while we were using 25 mm miniatures). I can't remember much about the actual adventure except slogging through the swamps...

That is a good way of looking at it I agree, it is a shame about the Ran, but he can always show up later. I always assumed he would be hiding somewhere, only to reemerge after the Afridhi War had blown over Havard

Yes, it is pretty much from my notes and mind. Brought up to date for d20. Tried to stay faithful to the original spirit of the game. Stuff was expanded form the original as Greg pointed out.
Code Monkey publishing will be doing a lot of the work in the future. Dustin is handling the electronic side of the company. Which was taking up a lot of time. I will still be doing approval of everything blackmoor with the able assistance of my son-in-law. Who has been role playing with us for some fifteen years now.
Everything Blackmoor was well recieved at Gencon. But, although I autographed hundreds of items only one guy wanted a 4e autographed. 4e doesn't see to be catching on. Abet code monkey would do a 'translation' if the demand was there. How odd?

Friends don't let friends 'powerlevel' in fake Rolexes. Now that "wowposter" has been purged, no one will understand this post anymore. Ah, well. Such is life.
