Welcome cadriel; I'm glad you joined us. I'm one of the younger people here too (born in 1978, playing since 1990/91 [started with the Black Box like yourself]). I credit this board with reinvigorating my interest in playing after the disillusionment I expereinced a few years back--You're in good company here.

Hello ODDers!
I'm Jon Hancock (seriously... and you can't imagine how much of a pain that was when I lived in America), role-playing since around 1981 - one of the second generation, I suppose that makes me - and these days currently living in Manchester, England, and still gaming.
As well as providing a few cartoons for Dragon, Fortean Times and other magazines I have also written some gaming odds and ends, including a couple of TWERPS supplements, but my day job involves trawling through computer files for the Greater Manchester Police. You can see why I need this hobby, can't you ;D
Despite enjoying the current wave of "story games" I find that my real love is still for the old systems like Empire of the Petal Throne and Tunnels & Trolls, so I try to squeeze a few sessions of them into my current gaming groups when I can.

Welcome Jack! Which TWERPS supplements have you done? I'm an old TWERPS fan myself. You'll find a good number of people on this board who recall EPT and T&T very fondly, and who still get to play it from time to time Doc

Which TWERPS supplements have you done? TWERPS Twek (with Niels Erickson) and Metaphysical Ninja Manic Chainsaw Vitamin Junkies are the two published ones; several others eventually appeared in the files section of the How To Do Everything Yahoo! group. I keep threatening to run some of these for my group, but in fact it's been years since I last played TWERPS

Hello All,
Long time lurker, new member. Recognise many here from Dragonsfoot and excited to find an OD&D focused community. Been gaming since about 1980 mostly B/X & AD&D 1E. Have the OD&D books and supps though not likely to get my group to play anytime soon (currently playing 2E AD&D and C&C, just happy to be playing something.) Heartily emjoy reading the discussions here and perhaps I may contribute from time to time.

Hello, One of my old friends pointed me here, so I thought I would say hi. I was one of the originally players in Dave Arneson's Blackmoor campaign. I have to say that Blackmoor is the only setting I have ever played in or DMed.
I have seen links here to my website so I won't repeat anything here.
I have never played AD&D although I have done some 3rd edition since ZG rereleased Dave Arneson's Blackmoor a couple of years ago.

Welcome![/glow] You are a legend among those of us who read Dave's First Fantasy Campaign and wish we were there. My experience with OD&D starts in 1975, but you got to play in the OOD&D (Original OD&D). Your very prescence helps to make this board more legitimate!

Welcome to all of you. I am finding I love OD&D even more than I enjoyed Classic D&D (Holmes/Moldvay/Cook/Mentzer)

I guess I can change my tagline now? Where is the Svenny when we need him? Right here of course. I never put up an intro. I guess I should. that will take a few minutes. FWIW, Cadriel is going to be my DM. Yay!

Hello:
I've joined up here thanks to a discussion on the Goblinoid Games' forums. I've been gaming ever since I was 12 years old when I picked up a copy of Star Frontiers, cheap, for the discount bin at Toy R. Us. Over the last few years, I've taken an interest in a lot of RPGs available in my youth as well as some I've missed. I'm particularly interested in Empire Of The Petal Throne and Gamma World.
Anyway, I look forward to discussions here.

Howdy, all.
I ended up here from the K&K forums. I've done lots of lurking here, as well as on K&K and the Grognard's Tavern, but decided it was time to start posting!
I started playing dnd in 6th grade (1981...) when a friend pulled out that ol' blue Expert rulebook in class on a stormy day (no outside recess!) I made a 3rd level werebear named Silverclaw, and haven't looked back since.
I never had the LBB experience until I stumbled across the pdfs floating around online a few years ago. I became an instant convert, to the point of copying and binding facsimile hardcopies for myself and using the Castles & Crusades box to carry them around in.
That being said, I also got involved with the indie rpg community at about the same time, and that ended up taking prededence. However, lately I've felt a good bit of burnout from "game as ART" thinking, and have turned back to the roots of the tree. This forum (as well as K&K) is a great breath of fresh air, and I'm looking forward to participating!

Hello Good People.
Thank you for the welcome.
I have been gaming for over half a century now in one of the great areas for gaming, the Twin Cities of Minnesota. As one of the original Blackmoor gamers, I didn't realize how lucky I was at the time, because for me it was just getting together with my friends for an evening of fun. So much of Blackmoor just evolved as it went along that it literally grew up along with us. Many of the guys still live here in the Twin Cities, and I still enjoy getting together with them when I can. I don't game much anymore, but I am having some of them over this Saturday, and I will see what I can do to start them posting here also. You seem to me to be a good group, and I enjoy reading your postings. I'll keep in touch.

Hi Bob, It is good to see you posting here! Dave told me last Saturday that you were going to have some of the guys over this Saturday. Can you tell me who is coming? I hope that you are successful getting some of them to start posting here. I would love to hear some of their views on the old group and games and to see how different their perceptions are from my own after more than 35 years.... Greg

Hi Greg, I haven't gamed with the guys for such a long time that I asked Peter to contact everyone for me. He keeps in touch with everyone. I will find out who is coming when they show up. I am looking forward to seeing what they will say here myself. I am separately contacting the people that I know are not showing up. They seem to be very interested in this. We will see. Bob

Hi everyone!
I started gaming in 1981, with the J. Eric Holmes edition of basic D&D. From there, I moved on to AD&D, MERP, Star Frontiers, Gamma World, and lots of other games. I currently work on WotC and have done lots of work on 4e.
I've always wanted to play OD&D, and I'm here because I'm (finally!) running it. I have a game at work on Friday afternoons. Back in 1988, I discovered TSR's Mail Order Hobby Shop catalog, which still offered the collector's reprint of the original boxed set. At least, the catalog listed it. I dutifully placed my order and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
And waited.
After two months, I finally heard back from TSR. The didn't have the OD&D set in stock anymore. All that waiting for nothing!
I've played every other version of D&D at one point or another, and now I finally get to play (well, run) the original.
- Mike

All that waiting for nothing! OMG, me too! Same year, same catalog, same result. Did you mitigate the disappointment by ordering the Supplements (which turned out to have b/w paper instead of cardstock covers) like I did? For me, at least, everything turned out well in the end because that year at GenCon (my first time there) I was able to pick up a well-used copy in the auction, for less than what a new copy would've cost, plus it was a 5th printing with Tolkien references intact. P.S. The last WotC employee who was a member at this board got the OCE set released on pdf for us, so you've got big shoes to fill in that regard

Wow, that's funny. I wonder how many orders they received and had to send back?
I only had money for the boxed set and was pretty angry that I didn't receive my order. I ended up blowing the money on a bunch of BattleTech minis from Lou Zocchi's mail order place.
That's really funny about the OCE being released online. When it was finally made available, I wondered why it had taken so long. I'm not sure I can ever top that...

All editions of D&D are in pdf for sale, except for Moldvay B/X. Maybe you could speak to the right person . It will certainly sell, at almost zero cost for WotC.

Good day all. I apologize as I have been on this site and involved with Mako's online game for a few months now and realized that I have not introduced myself. My name is Claus, born in 64. I got involved with Mako back in high school playing basic and then ad&d. I have been involved in just about every game mentioned in this site and a few that have not including a play test of a space based game. I have played many board games as well. I have played in d&d style games (basic, ad&d, 2e, 3rd, dragonquest, rolemaster), historical styles like pendragon and boothill, contemporary ones like top secret and call of cthulu, and futuristic ones like traveler, mega traveler and star wars. Some of the campaigns I am involved in have been running for over 20 years. As Mako can attest I generally play multiple characters in the party (split personality) as some campaigns we just want to try some ideas or rules and can’t get enough people together to play. I also am a bit of a game lawyer as I will exploit any loophole in rules with sound arguments or natural progressions (eg developing a death star in traveler). I am mostly a player as when I dm pretty much everyone dies.

And waited. And waited. And waited. I had a similar experience. I ordered Star Probe and Star Empires and they were supposed to be releasing this as a trilogy of scifi games so I kept asking them when #3 would come out. The project never happened. I was so ticked that I composed a little ditty called "TSR is an SOB" and used to sing that every day when I checked the mailbox....
