For those not hooked in to the DD Google Group... the DD errata sheet and "version b" of the free Ref Rules (which integrates all the errata into the PDFs) has been put together and reviewed. I'm bookmarking the PDFs now and expecting them to be available for download this weekend. The main updates in "version b" of the Ref Rules include: the fighter gets what he's owed from Chainmail, HD progression for all classes slows at high levels as per M&M, Dwarfs can see at night and Halflings can sneak and hide as per Chainmail, added a missile ranges table, and Dragons and Rocs get some extra stuff from Chainmail. As well as a bunch of minor corrections. All available to you for free of course

What does this mean, version B? Is this an alternate chainmailish flavor of DD that will be presented as an alternative going forward with a version A beside it, or is it a successor to the current DD? If so, would BHP be putting version B into the rumored POD hardcover?

The upcoming revision of the Ref Rules is the successor to the first version. You'll get a stand alone errata sheet which enumerates every change. You'll also get a revised version of the three Ref Rules PDFs which have all the corrections neatly applied for you. Both will be freely available for you to download, if you so choose. I don't think I'd describe it as "Chainmailish"... The changes are mostly minor corrections with a few additions that were previously missed. It's still the DD you know and love I can't speak for BHP about the single volume DD, other than to say: John asked for a copy of the corrected DD Ref Rules, which he has received, so it seems likely that he'll be using them. I hope so!

It is a bit of a pity that I haven't even got my box set yet and there is errata for it

It is a bit of a pity that I haven't even got my box set yet and there is errata for it Or -- looking at it the other way around -- it's a stroke of good fortunate that you'll already have the errata sheet handy when you get your boxed set The good folks of the DD community have identified a number of errors/omissions in the first version of the DD Ref Rules since they were released in October 2012. As custodian of the Ref Rules it's my responsibility to see those issues addressed; thus the errata sheet and the revised PDFs.

What does this mean, version B? Is this an alternate chainmailish flavor of DD....? As Simon has already answered, no, but.... I'm working on something "unofficial" in this vein. Parallel to that, I'm also working on a "Book of War" mass-troop option tentatively with the BOW author's assistance, that has the potential to become both OGL and "official" for DD. Playtesting both now. The process is slow as I work full-time as a consultant and am teaching 3 courses as an adjunct. So no promises or time-lines! Meanwhile, you can purchase Daniel Collins' Original Delta's Book of War on Lulu.com in both hardback and PDF and enjoy it yourself. I'd encourage you to do so! The CM one is trickier, but is more a labor of love than anything. I'll be using only the "normal" or "troop" combat system from CM. (Not man-to-man or Fantasy combat tables). Some elements will be deliberately changed and simplified, but the end result will be to add, as you stated, a "Chainmailish flavor" to DD as an alternative combat option. It will be playing DD like I run OD&D with CM. Modified and simplified for quick combat resolution, minimal accounting, and optimal play. (I always have kids in mind when I run games) For those Chainmail purists that want to run it by the little blue book... go play Chainmail. :-) That's what I do!

No, man, I wouldn’t make light of it. It’s not wrong for people to express frustration at a product shipping two years late. Falconer, I am not John or BHP. Aside from co-authoring/editing the text, I have nothing to do with the product you refer to. I appreciate there is frustration around delivery of the boxed sets -- I don't have one yet either. But Looking at the upside is not the same thing as making light. I gave you (the collective "you") the DD Reference Rules for free. I'm now giving you (the collective "you") an update to the DD Reference Rules for free.

Are you going to publish the immersive ink versions of the rules as print on demand books? (Or do a good old fashioned print-run?)

Me either I'm gearing upto finaly start my DD game this week or next. Sounds great Bestial; let us all know how it goes Are you going to publish the immersive ink versions of the rules as print on demand books? (Or do a good old fashioned print-run?) The DD Ref Rules are available (for free) in PDF format. You can download them from rpgnow
-- at some point I'd like to make them available online as a hyperlinked document, but I have no plans to do the DD Ref Rules in any other format. Are we there yet? The PDFs were all uploaded to rpgnow over the weekend. Just awaiting their approval process to complete...

Just to let everyone know it looks like the updates are now avaliable on rpg now Yes! The files were approved overnight (for me). I've just gone in and added the v1 errata sheet to the existing v1 bundle, and also created a v2 bundle (which includes the three v2 PDFs). Net effect: the DD Ref Rules v2 and the DD v1 errata sheet are now available for download. Enjoy!

I'm somewhat confused by all this. Does the v1 errata sheet just upgrade the pdf files from last October? Or does it also apply to the printed copies in the box set from last December?

John used the v1 rules to make his 5 booklets, so i'm guessing it would apply to both. Though the page numbers won't match up.

That is correct, but John also posted this recently: I would like to include the new changes list in the remaining DD boxed sets. However, they are keyed for Simon's reference edition of DD, so I may need to try and adapt them. So he may be releasing an updated errata for the boxed set.

I noticed that the Adventurers and Monster volumes are bookmarked, but the Referees book doesn't seem to be. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

Thanks for the new version, I was planning to print these off and adding them into my DD box set. However the PDFs appear to be password encrypted so I am checking if printing them is OK? To clarify 'printing' them I mean getting them printed professionally, and they (rightly so) say NO to password protected docs. And there are no bookmarks on the referee's Guide, not that it takes long to do yourself

To clarify 'printing' them I mean getting them printed professionally, and they (rightly so) say NO to password protected docs. And there are no bookmarks on the referee's Guide, not that it takes long to do yourself I checked the PDFs that I created and uploaded; they have no security set on them, and all three volumes are bookmarked. But the copies I downloaded from rpgnow are password protected, and vol 2 is missing the bookmarks, as you've noted. I uploaded vol 2 again, and the same thing happened. I don't know if it's something going on at their end, so I've emailed rpgnow's support. Hopefully they will have an answer for us soon.

The copies I downloaded open without issue (no passwords, etc.) I am on a Mac.

If you run the PDFs through the gizmo at www.freemypdf.com it removes the passwords. I did that so I could merge the three volumes into a single file to throw on my kindle. But, even if they ARE password protected, that shouldn't prevent you from printing them. That's really odd. Thanks for looking into it, Simon.
