Join the revolution! Write for AFS magazine. Making counter attacks into the gaming scene armed with mattocks and lit pitch torches....
Now welcoming submissions for AFS Issue#3. Submissions should be based in the Worlds or spirit of REH, CAS, HPLovecraft or Jack Vance. AFS #3 will be a special A&F edition (A&F standing for adventures & fiction), so ideally your submission should be an adventure written in generic OSR D&D, 2-8 pages and contain a map or maps. You would be compensated by seeing your name in print, and a reduced price zine. You will also recieve a 'contributors coin' (as I collect old coin lots). For this edition I would like to include 4 or 5 adventures & 2 short fiction pieces . ( I already have the fiction pieces). Was shooting for an April 15th deadline. Submissions can be sent to srmoberly at yahoo.com. Thank you

Just got the covers back from the printer as well as the map for Benoist's excellent AS&SH adventure 'Kusu's Cove / Hyperborean Laboratory' which I had printed in color on 20lb ivory cardstock. Still hoping to have this issue published and released by mid to late June. If anyone still has a late submission I would accept it, my email to send to is srmoberly _at_yahoo.com. As soon as I get the Table of Contents set in stone I will post it here and start accepting pre-orders for those interested. Thanks!

It looks great. I had the pleasure of reading Benoist's fantastic adventure just this past weekend, and I feel it is a quality contribution to the Hyperborea campaign that includes excellent adventure material coupled with a unique authorial voice that not only presents fantastic ideas, but also effects a gamer-to-gamer brainstorming of further ideas that might be employed "in your campaign". Great work on the map, scaly.

The print and the cover look awesome! Jeff has been a great sport and I thank him for his help when putting this adventure setting together! Can't wait to see this puppy in the hands of the AFS readers to see what they're going to do with it! Thanks so much Scott for managing the whole thing. The mag is a blast. I've been enjoying it a lot, used stuff from it in my games, and I'm both honored and thrilled to be able to share some of my stuff on its pages. Namaste!

Though these laboratories were used in my AS&SH campaign, I wrote it intentionally with very little stats and number crunching, and with loads of ambiance and details on how to plug this dungeon into your own game however you want. It would work great in most fantasy campaigns, O/AD&D, Hackmaster, DCC RPG, 3e, 4e, Next, etc. It could work with completely different games too. As long as you have the potential for a cabal of bad or neutral guys to investigate supernatural forces or technology beyond their understanding, with the PCs coming in much later into the picture to explore the place where these experiments were conducted, it can be plugged into your game. A few examples coming to mind: RuneQuest: the labs were used by either the Wyrm Friends or the God Learners in Ages past. They meddled with hero quests, the hero plane, runes, those kinds of powers, and it backlashed into their faces, corrupting the area around the labs. Call of Cthulhu and/or Delta Green: these could be labs from the FBI post-Innsmouth raid in the USA. The US government meddled with Cthulhu forces, studying various artefacts in that locale. The whole program was shut down after a backlash and the place shut down, hoping the public wouldn't ever become aware of its existence. Cyberpunk 2020: A corp made some technological experiments involving really futuristic technologies like space bending, evolved AIs and the like (could be some work on the seed AIs which could later plug into an Eclipse Phase future for your CB20K game). The PCs are hired by a competitor to steal the secrets locked up there after the experiments were shut down, or even if they are still taking place in the complex. Add a net layer on top of the labs, so that the physical location and its net counterpart can be both interacted with by the PCs, including netrunners. Shadowrun: Mix CB20K with the fantasy setting, netrunners for deckers, make the corruption both technological and magical, tempering with the forces of nature and its spiritual reality both. The Shadowrunners are hired in a similar fashion than CB20K, to bust into the place, retrive the data, and give it to their employer when everything's said and done. Star Wars: this was a temple of the Sith built within the cavern networks of a gigantic asteroid. Holocrons have been taking a life of their own, and the influence of the Dark Side of the force has taken a hold over this whole area. Connections with other dimensions or worlds could become access to Holocron memories, or Virtual realities. The Jedi have tried to gain control of the place but failed. They fell to the Dark Side as well. Deathwatch: Get to the labs of the Chaos worshippers. Kill everything inside. Retrieve the data and whatever fueled the experiments which unleashed the forces of Chaos on the planet/in the asteroid field/whatever. For the Emperor! And so on.

Hey, I would like to order all three issues. Do you still have copies of issues one and two? I'm in Canada, so what would be the total, assuming shipping them together?

Hey, I would like to order all three issues. Do you still have copies of issues one and two? I'm in Canada, so what would be the total, assuming shipping them together? Issue#1 has been SOLD OUT for awhile now, and I don't have plans to reprint it. Issue#2 is still available. I will figure out rates for USA, Canada, and International for combined ordering of Issues 2 &3 including shipping (offering a slight combined shipping discount) and post it here shortly. Thanks for your interest. Thanks Falconer, and to others that have ordered. I believe it will be less than 2 weeks until the zine #3 ships, but just wanted to pad things in case of complications. Things are 90% done though (this ain't no kickstarter ) *Edit* to add price info for ordering Issues #2 and #3 together. Price to order Issues #2 and #3 including shipping would be USA $13.00, CANADA $16.00, INTL $22.00

Good news in that I got in a solid 3 hour block of time last night working on layout, formatting, & artwork additions. The total page count for this Issue# 3 is coming in at 56 pages, making it the biggest issue yet. I now estimate I am 97.4% complete with things , and soon the next step will be heading to the printer and then assembling and packaging for mailing. Thanks again to those that have pre- ordered

Just a quick update especially for those that have pre-ordered or have interest. Issue #3 is finished! and I printed up and assembled the first test copy. I am pleased with how it came out and am proofreading it over one last time this eve. I plan to start mass producing the orders I have on hand and will be shipping them out in batches over the next 3 or 4 days, hoping to have all orders shipped by Monday is my goal. Here are a few pics I took (on my cruddy cell ph) of the finished product. (I posted other pics of the cover etc earlier in this thread) Thanks

Just an Update, that production went well today and many magazines will ship out Monday. I ran out of some supplies at the end, but there are just a few orders that came in late that I couldn't fill. I will be replenishing those supplies tomorrow and will fulfill the rest of the orders on hand and have stock available for future orders.
Hope you enjoy the read when you receive Issue #3. AFS Magazine is a tribute to Weirdbook (W. Paul Ganley - editor) and the Weird Tales of the 1920's & 1930's

Just sent a payment for Issues #2 and #3. Looking forward to them! Add me to the list of folks who missed out on Issue #1 and would love to see a reprint. I've decided what I am going to do on Issue# 1 is to do some improvement work to it, Re-format, fix a few typos, add some art, and include a new alternate color cardstock cover. I'll post a pic here when it is done (and on my blog) and print up some and make available for any who want it. There are some good items I think in Issue #1 that should see the light of day again Also - hopefully a lot of people on OD&D discussion that have ordered Issue #3 have received in the mail by now, and enjoy the read. Happy to hear any feedback. Thank you

Got my copy of #3 today. Was only able to skim it before the twins woke up from their naps but the "Temple of Death" story is worth the sticker price all by itself. Great find.
