This might be easier to see the troop relationships for those looking at Chainmail for the first time. Self evident really once you look at the original tables. A number in a cell shows what is required for a kill. More than one number in a cell means more than one die is rolled. Green numbers mean your opponent is more powerful than you and a 6 is always required. The '/3' means you roll 1 die for every 3 of your men. To see relative *expected* killing power and in order to use whole numbers I imagined the attacking force is large enough to attack with 72 men across the battlefield. ================== Small versions for glancing at: ================== ================== An interesting question for experienced Chainmail players is how do they perceive the difference in killing power between say, Armoured foot vs Heavy Foot --- 5 or 6 on 1d6 kills Light Horse vs Heavy Foot --- 6 on either of 2d6 kills
both which of which have the same killing power in the long run. In the short run they will feel different though.

Nice visual representations there. Although not very experienced, my feeling from is that there is pretty much no difference in the outcome of two needing 6s and one needing 5+ when there are six or more dice rolled, it only really shows when there are very few dice involved.
