Nice one Greengoat. Anyone up for an art discussion thread for this issue? Or is it too soon? @fcbrandt: Not sure about deadlines. Calithena runs the show and it sounds like he's been pretty busy. That's probably why stuff isn't crossed off too. As per my previous posts I have submitted images for the 'elf as green man art' and 'slimes'. It looks like labsenpai claimed the 'northern fantasy'/broken sword style pic - elves, trolls, vikings in battle, etc.' as well. I saw Cal posted some more requests here odd74.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fanzine&action=display&thread=6412 Get em before they go!

Thanks for the comments folks.
I didn't know if was still kosher to post the full images in the threads. I am curious what the issue will look like.

If artists like to discuss their art they can feel free to post it. :-)

Since greengoat got the ball rolling, perhaps we should just post pics here... This one's for part two of Champions of ZED.

All great pics, nezach. My favorite is the third one, but I am biased toward single-celled organisms. The last pic also speaks to me (in a voice eerily reminiscent of Otto Preminger's!).

Fighters against an undead troll and "worms of the earth" D&D style. Having to scan at letter-size isn't too hot for brushwork. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The art just keeps getting awesomer. (yes, that's a word...)
Nezach, all great, but I especially love the last one!
lapsenpai--for whatever reason, this one reminds me of Rosloff's stuff. Maybe it's the armor on the right-hand guy. As always, stellar composition. The eye just keeps roving around the image...

I really like that first drawing, nezach. Reminds me of Russ Nicholson (Warlock of Firetop Mountain). Here's my swashbuckler. Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Wow. Now I just have to finish putting the issue together!
Well, there's still a bit more art coming in, but as you see it's great.

Great artwork chaps! I really like the undead troll and nezach's green man.
I haven't been able to contribute much to this issue, I'm afraid, but it looks like I won't be missed with all this great art around!

Ant: cool swashbuckler. I think my favorite illustration from issue 12 was your pic with the censored privates. Was it you or Umlaut who did the scrambling? Labsenpai: great job, I like your bold brush work. Kelvin: I hope you come back with a vengeance on issue 14. Here's another of mine for this ish (with apologies to Erol Otus):

jasons, that drawing is brilliant. Reminds me of Elmore's "Adventurer Shopping" piece from the BECMI Basic book. Love it! And thanks for the compliments. The naked fighter went to the editors pre-pixellated. I figured discretion was the better part of valour.

Toothy magickal energy bolt, being cast upon a clockwork construct. And much like this mechanical being stuck on 'automatic', I'd immediately started out scratching a color piece in Bloatoshoppe, before realizing half-way through that the whole nostalgic inkstained Trampier/Otus 1981 vibe was preferred. In any case, here's both of 'em (click on the thumbs to see the full versions).

Awesome pics Tom! It would be great to get that in color in the mag somehow. Here's a image from the fungus cave request thread. funguscave012Cal, I don't know how much time is left before you are done with layout, but I'm sketching some ideas for the 16th century explorers request if that still needs something.

I think it does...unless someone grabbed it? Check the thread, if no-one grabbed it it's yours!
That pic is pretty durn awesome BTW.

I love the tiny adventurers. They're easy to miss, so at first this might look like a simple picture of a fungal cave, but then you see the adventurers and you realise it's a fungal cavern!

Nezach: Here's a image from the fungus cave request thread. That is pretty dope nezach. Can I ask about tools and technique? I am curious to see how those tones will print in the mag, since I am having illustration tone issues myself and tightening too much around my ink lines. Jason: Here's another of mine for this ish (with apologies to Erol Otus): The shopkeeper looks rather Gary-ish. I like the helm and suspenders Great stuff everybody.

Thanks for the kind words folks. That is pretty dope nezach. Can I ask about tools and technique? I am curious to see how those tones will print in the mag, since I am having illustration tone issues myself and tightening too much around my ink lines. Thanks! I don't know how much help this is but my general process is to sketch on regular paper then scan the stuff that has potential. I do my line 'inking' in Photoshop because I just don't have the talent or patience for traditional hand inking. I retired my pens and ink as soon as I got a tablet for my computer. For the cavern image I did some further layer blends and gradients to try and get some interesting effects. I'm just as interested as you to see how the tones appear. It seems to be a crap-shoot with Lulu as far as printed B&W quality. I've received issues where the tones on the same article's title graphics have gone from completely readable in one issue to faintly visible due to lack of contrast in the next. I probably should keep the tones flatter, but I can't help myself sometimes.

There's a lot of really cool artwork in this thread. Labsenpai's undead troll is particularly nifty. Thanks Tom! I like your colors, you might consider submitting a cover someday if you're so inclined. Satisfy my curiosity, Cal: What are the requirements for a cover illo (Apart from the fact that it should be well-made)? Any technical specs that need to be met, size limitations, dpi resolution, etc?

8.5 x 11 300 dpi jpegs are the easiest to work with, but we have resources to work with artists on other formats too!

I'd like to take slimes in the Moroccan themed dungeon if no one's grabbed that. (Technically, I've already done the drawing to make sure I was happy with what I could do before I threw my hat in the ring.)
