derv OK, so I've just finished reading the novella from 1953. Like I said above, it's a bit shorter. The plot of first 11 chapters are basically the same, but the text has been expanded (no Alfric's dagger of burning for example). Than, it lacks the giant and werewolf episodes. After meeting Morgana into the wild, Holger gets to Tarnberg to meet master Martinus. Holger goes under the name of Sir Roger of Czechoslovakia instead of Sir Rupert of Graustark. It's in the final chapters were Anderson made most of the changes. First of all, there is no true troll! Poor Hugi dies anyway, but in the skirmish with the cannibals. The Rusel episode was also added in the novel. PS Carahue comes from India (not Mauretania) and after Ogier's disappearance converted back to Islam.
