Hello Ronin, a couple of questions re: character generation... 1) Do you have a link to the 3rd pring S&W white box? The download link from Mythmere Games seems to be pulling down a 2nd print version. I'm not sure if there are any significant/subtle changes we should know about. 2) You mention Elves and Dwarfs in the Barony of Whitewood thread; Which model are we using for Elvish PCs? The White Box Elf Variant, the usual (?!) multi-classed Elf model, or some other model? 3) Are there Halflings in Whitewood? 4) Are we using any system of PC alignment? 5) Do you want to stick to the core PC classes, or allow a few others too (perhaps the White Box versions of the paladin, ranger, assassin etc., described here)? 6) Are you going to roll for our starting funds? Or do you have another scheme for starting gear?

Or do you have another scheme for starting gear? Answer to 1) I am patiently waiting for my 3rd printing to show up in the mail, I was hoping to have it by the 24th but it is about 20 miles from my house in a mail bag. I would like to stick to the core rules as to avoid all the house rules that are out there that I am still organizing. Answer to 2) The white box races are what I had in mind, see answer to question 1. If that doesn't answer the question well enough then I can clarify more later. Answer to 3) There is indeed halflings in the world in fact they have their own village close to Rivers Edge, Berry Grove. Answer to 4) At this time I was thinking of running without alignment but we can throw that out to just Law, Neutral, Chaos if we want or the old fashioned Good, Neutral and Evil. Answer to 5) I was trying to stick with just the white box classes for now, I like a lot of the house rules stuff that is out there but I want to sort through it. Answer to 6) Go ahead and roll your own 3d6X10 for gold, shouldn't be an issue at all. I hope that helps clarify a few things!

I was thinking about running a cleric. How are you dealing with deities in Whitewood?

I was thinking about running a cleric. How are you dealing with deities in Whitewood? ProfessorP, I am not going to get crazy about sticking to one pantheon if you are Greyhawk, Realms, Norse or something else kind of guy then just run it by me first and we can figure something out. In the past I've had realms clerics mixing with Greyhawk clerics doing a favor for Odin's church. Just run the deity by me first so I can make sure there wouldn't be any conflicts down the road.

Please use the Elf Variant, it fits more with what I was picturing! I will amend the oracle thread as well!! Thanks for pulling my head out of....the bottle.

Very good Ronin, thanks for the clarifications. Thanks also Verhaden for the link, duely downloaded. I shall play Erimus Quail a pious fighting-Man out to prove himself worthy of paladinhood. Erimus' roll for starting gold on Invisible Castle is here 3d6=13 = 130 gold pieces. Further details to come...

I have changed my mind about playing a dwarf, and will now run a Fighting Man. I should have a character sheet completed soon.

Ummm... I know I told WOTE that I would see if one of my other games died down before joining another, but... I like the idea of jumping into a game from the beginning.
Might you have room for one more?

Might you have room for one more? Well....yes I can make room! I feel though that you are six gun charlie and anyone else interested will have to be on a wait list! Doesn't mean I don't want them and I also have been known to open up a second story within the same world as well...but that involved bribes... Sounds like you have been following along so, you know what to do and.... WOW! My dice must really like you so: 17,17,15,14,14,13 Hope you can live up to all that Karma!!

Languages
Aramaic (Old Tongue spoken mostly by the elders of the wandering tribes of the White Sands)
Azharan (Tongue of the Elements and their lords)
Black Tongue (Tongue spoken by those trained in dark arts OR their allies. Some races are also rumored to speak this.)
Draconic
Dwarvish
Elvish
Giants Tongue (Uses the same alphabet as Draconic but it is not as detailed.)
Goblin
Nital (Tongue of the scholars and of the clergy, as you gain more prestige in either one of those careers you will need to learn this language.)
Orcish (Similar to Black Tongue but simpler to learn.)
Silent Tongue (Spoken by woodsman/brigands/soldiers, a way of communicating with just your hands)
Sylvan (Spoken by the rest of the woodland creatures, other than elves.)
This is from memory so when I get a chance do dig out my old notes I will adjust this. Thanks for your patience.

Do Magic-Users start with a spellbook? Do they have to learn Read Magic or do they start with it? On that note, how many spells does a 1st level Magic-User have in their spell book at first level? Per level?
How many of the in-document optional rules re. attributes apply, if any?
I included "Common" as a language on my sheet--is there a "Common" language?

You may start with Read Magic and right now off my brain one other spell...I will re-read the magic portion and let you know. I am using most of the optional rules per the book though ask please just to make sure.

Per level? How many of the in-document optional rules re. attributes apply, if any? I included "Common" as a language on my sheet--is there a "Common" language? I am going to default to the SW complete rules here and use the method described: So using that table in the complete book, you would have a 75% chance to know the spell and a minimum of 6 spells that you would know. There would be a max of 10/level but that shouldn't be an issue at this point. I would suggest you come up with a list of spells that you would like to know beyond Read Magic and roll to see if you understand them. This means that you have 6 spells plus Read Magic which I am not counting as part of your MAX spells either. The Common tongue in my games has always been called Trade, but for ease here I stayed with Common...I would be happy to use Trade instead if you would like. There are regional tongues yes but I need to change a few of the names on those as I wasn't happy with those names and if people would like to reserve choices until then...that's fine with me and it won't have a large impact at this time.

And just to clarify, in the other thread when you said 3rd printing, you meant WhiteBox, right?

As far as clerics, are you allowing use of any missile weapons other than oil (e.g. slings, thrown hammers)? What about bonus spells for high wisdom at first level?

ProfessorP, Your kind of stuck with what the clerics get by default...UNLESS you wish to be a Cleric of the deity that I sent you then I would allow you to use a scimitar... 1d6 damage. That is not to say though that, that couldn't change down the road with some very interesting roleplaying and storytelling, of course.
