... Giant hogs appears in the U&WA wandering monsters tables for dungeons, as level 3 creatures - along with wights and swashbucklers. As many creatures from these tables, no stats are provided. I guess the warthog (AC 7, HD3) or even the giant boar (AC6, HD7) from the AD&D could be used. Just wonder who, among you, did ever make use of this creature and how ? I rolled some for my megadungeon... I must admit I didn't know such creatures could exists really, but : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_forest_hogFrom an archeological point of view, the differences between U&WA and M&T tables are something which puzzle me. I will try to find some explanations.

Boars were the major menace, at least in Britain, as you can see from Culhwch and Olwen and similar literature. There is a boar hunt in Artifact of Evil in that vein, too, which might give you an idea or two.

I used a giant boar to terrorize a town once. It was a great adventure with them looking for a band of goblins thinking they were responsible. The look on their face when I described the almost 1000lb hog was priceless.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here, but if you want to include giant hogs in your campaign, you absolutely must watch the movie "Pig Hunt." If you like slightly cheesy monster movies, it's great fun, and shows how scary these suckers could be. The movie concerns a "band of adventurers" hunting and being hunted in turn by one of these brutes. Plus there are the usual redneck mutants and weird, hippie cultists. Good stuff, if you like that sort of thing.

Although I suspect it may have been rolled up randomly using the giant creatures rule, Giant Hogs are partially statted in Blackmoor dungeon level 5. AC4, HD 4, HP 17

Good find Dan. That's all you really need for an OD&D encounter with Hogzilla. The Hogs are a Level 3 monster but can be found on Level 5 of a dungeon on a roll of 5.
In Greyhawk, the Giant Hogs were retained on Level 3 but doubled up with Giant Weasles [sic] as entry #11. In the 1st print Holmes, Level 3, entry #11 was changed to Giant Weasels/Giant Lizards, eliminating the Hogs. But there were no stats for Giant Weasels or Lizards in the Holmes rulebook, so in the 2nd print #11 was changed to Wererats. Level 3 of M&TA has Giant Weasels but no Hogs.

Yeah, they exist down here too. There was a cheap Aussie "Jaws" knock-off about wild pigs called "Razorback" that is a cult classic too.

*bump* Level 6 of the original Castle Greyhawk was filled with 3HD "Wild Hogs": "The sixth was a repeating maze with dozens of wild hogs (3 dice) in inconvinient (sic) spots, naturally backed up by appropriate numbers of Wereboars." This is from Gygax's description of Castle Greyhawk in Europa zine, Aug 1975, posted here: hackslashmaster.blogspot.com/2013/03/on-early-tropes-castle-greyhawk.html
