Here's a wacky idea. Some NPC miniature sets mention names of towns (Cullhaven, Dreadmere, Dunkeldorf). Let those towns be part of your campaign, so the miniatures will appear only in their respective towns. For a campaign map, use the Outdoor Survival board game.

It's a good idea to wash your miniatures before you prime and paint them. That way you get rid of any mold releases left in the miniature. You just need an old toothbrush, some soap, and warm water.
I'm going to try using toothpaste instead of soap. Toothpaste cleans well. It's even great for removing tarnish from silver, so it should work well for metal miniatures. Maybe it will work for plastic as well.
Gargling is optional.

It's an interesting problem most (to my experience) in the hobby have: an ever-growing pile of shame.
Personally, I still have a good amount* of miniatures board games which have been waiting for a paint job for quite a while, but I've noticed a certain satiety for other projects I had struggled with in the past, like my WH40K models. My Orks and AdMech armies are at a size which is great for playing and I don't feel the need to get new stuff all the time anymore. Projects pretty much finished. (They do need some more play action, though...) The same is true for Age of Sigmar / Warhammer Fantasy where I have a medium-sized Nurgle army and a big vampire army (which still is WIP, slowly building up).
I've set my personal limits for other armies early, and since I prefer skirmish games, that works well. KillTeam, Masters Battlegrounds, Infinity - they all need only a couple of models. When something new and cool comes along, I grab it, but I feel like I do have the time to paint those.
I've managed to reduce my pile of shame with the help of speed-painting techniques and contrast paints which make it so much easier to achieve a great look with minimal work. On a "standard" sized models I hardly spend more than 30 minutes painting. I do enjoy taking my time for some HQ models, though, and for the vampires, for some reason.
* I feel this needs an explanation in numbers because personal limits may vary. I'd be interested to know your personal numbers, by the way.
Board Games I want to paint but haven't gotten around to do: 15 (Some of them I'll probably just sell again, as my taste has changed since the kickstarters *sigh* Some just take too long to get delivered)
I still have the major part of the WH40K Leviathan box unpainted. 2 KillTeams are waiting, a handfull of Chaos Marines, 1 big terrain piece, 3 MDF houses for my Mordheim board, 5 Infinity miniatures are WIP, 2 boxes of BattleTech 'mechs, and my true pile of shame are about 12 boxes for Carnevale which I sadly never got to play again after moving. I've kept them because I really like the designs and the game, but I might have to sell them at some point. I also have a small army of Infinity Haqqislam minis from boxed sets and sales which I will mostly sell again.

Well, there are much worse building resources out there. You could be using dried dung for more realism in your fantasy games

Just saw this! Looks like a pretty intense gaming table, lots of trenches and places to get in cover (or be hacked in half without anyone being able to shot the attacker). Nice one!
I've checked out this game myself a couple of weeks ago and the simplicity sounds attractive. I'll have to try this at some point. Right now, though, I'm hoping my 2000AD-buddy will have some time soon and we'll be playing Strontium Dog and Judge Dredd again.

I like the weird vacu-formed cardboard pulp structures that are often used to pack things like vacuum cleaners or countertop kitchen appliances. The outside usually has a mud-like organic texture, and the shapes can be really wild, suggesting architecture from antiquity, or fantasy, or the far future. It always pains me to chuck one in the recycling.

It always pains me to chuck one in the recycling. Those always look so interesting! I used to collect them, but never did anything with any of it do I tossed it all and stopped keeping them. My wife, ever supportive of my hobby, because it is cheaper and safer than strop clubs, has recently begin insisting we keep all of it so that I may use it when I get interested in scenery-building again.

What color is your battle mat? If you use one for everything, find a paint color that closely matches the mat and paint all your bases that color. The paint doesn't have to match the battle mat exactly, as the difference probably won't be too noticeable if the colors are very close. I recently put this idea to the test. I had made a battle mat using white paper with 1 inch grids mounted on thick cardstock and laminated with clear wrapping paper. I then painted the bases of a couple of miniatures a parchment color. I only used craft paint, nothing fancy. The dwarf originally had a light brown base, but I covered it with the craft paint. The wizard's base was undercoated gray then painted the parchment color. It matches the mat more closely and has a cooler look. I added a couple of miniatures with clear bases for comparison.
