Mikhail tries awkwardly to find just the right words for Melvin's presumed passing, while Grimolfr is busy playing with his new toy and refusing to share the money with anyone.
A distinct *kerplunk* is heard in large nixie pond to the south, but it may have just been a fish.
Currently mid-morning, you've spent 30 minutes in the ruins.
Area description & obvious exits:
A vast, irregularly shaped plaza, with many places flooded by water. Most of the buildings look ruined and indistinguishable.
In the northwest corner, a partially flooded exit, heading west 30 yards back to the main street.
To the north, a small alley overgrown with reeds seven feet high leads through the buildings.
At the west end, a huge fountain spilling water out through cracks in all directions. There is an algae-covered monument at the center of the pool: clearly a statue of some person or scene, but the algae is so thick you can't make out what it is. Some nixies were known to lurk there in ambush.
The fountain feeds into a small canal cut into the ground, which runs east along the courtyard dividing it into a north half and south half. The canal passes beneath the raised columns of a stately but crumbling building in the middle of the plaza, and into a small palatial complex at the far east end of the plaza.
The south half of the courtyard is almost entirely submerged and quite swampy, and is the known lair of a cluster of nixies.
Nobody in the party speaks the nixie tongue, but Yevgeniy, Olieth and Taivel all speak Neutral.
When Yevgeniy cries "Nixies!," six of them flutter out of the algae-covered fountain statue and keep their distance. Eventually a dialogue is started up in Neutral (we'll assume Yevgeniy, Olieth and Taivel are acting as translators for the rest of the party).
"What do you want with us poor creatures? We must bury our dead and live in fear that you will come back and murder us again!"

Grimolfr tries to charge forward, but his sword won't let him attack the nixies! The sword openly mocks him: "Fiddledy foddledy zip-zap zurd, you didn't say the magic word!" Grim is forced to stay back with the rest of the party.
(Ego test to force the sword to attack magical creatures: Ego+Intelligence+abilities = 23, Grim's INT+STR - current condition = 17 difference of 6 = sword's ego automatically wins)
Ryuko maintains composure and shoots from the rear rank, but misses (2).
The nixies do not come forward, but continue to hurl insults and ready more javelins.

The party escapes the way they came and the nixies do not follow, content to make rude gestures instead.
High Street You are back on the main avenue of the ruined city. The side street to the east leads back to the flooded plaza with the nixies.
On the west side of the street is what looks like a large private residence.
A little to the south, next to the large private residence, is a building lined with Greek columns and the weathered remains of statues, and topped with a domed bronze roof, half broken with a tree growing out of it.
To the north, the street ends at an east-west T-section, lined with the remains of opulent town houses. A large temple overlooks the intersection, with a tall square tower that threatens to topple over. The yawning face of a huge watery Green Man figure overlooks the temple entrance. You can also just make out a small stream of water running through a huge crack in the street at the intersection. From here it seems to be fizzing madly.
A ways to the south is the large stately building that leads back to civilized Slumberlot.
Grimolfr's sword is quite chatty. "I am Alfomutax, the Most Perilous Sword in History! Learn your magoxiphology! That means the study of magic swords, you uneducated bumpkins. I was made by the Elf King, before your grandfathers' grandfathers' grandfathers had grandfathers." Alfomutax wants only to be wielded and cared for. It will happily attack your enemies when the time is right.
Magnolia the pixie notes that one pool has been marked and tested, and the day is still young.
Ryuko will need to get back to a warm bed before she can start to heal (it will take 1 week to heal the mortal wound, then 1 day per hit point as usual).
Entering the building, the front portion of it at least appears to be abandoned. From the entry room you can see stairs leading to an upper floor and down to a cellar. The place seems to stretch back quite a ways, with a variety of small rooms on all sides.
Thanks for your patience, had the usual delays from visiting family out of state and then getting sick.
Ryuko rests in a corner while the rest of the party scour the building.
The ground floor and upper floor each have 8 small side rooms, and each room takes a turn to search. The cellar has 3 rooms, each taking 3 turns to search fully (and requiring light). The searching rate will be doubled as the party is looking for secret passages as well searching the rooms themselves.
With 6 active party members, it takes 9 turns to sweep the place for goods and secret doors, with 2 torches being spent.
No treasure or monsters are found. There is evidence that the place has been used at various times by wild animals and even bandits, but currently it is abandoned and any valuables are long gone.
While searching a bedroom on the upper floor, Olieth spots a bird's nest inside the wall and moves to investigate: the floor beneath him gives way and he crashes through through to the lower floor! He fails his saving throw (2) but suffers only 1 damage. More careful investigation reveals that the bird nest is empty.
While searching the very back end of the cellar, Taivel notices a bricked up section of the wall behind some empty wine shelves. The bricks are loose and easily dismantled, revealing a hidden exit that leads to a back alley. The alley leads out to a street overlooked by a temple and bath house, with lizards carved all over the pillars and stonework.

Resting for healing purposes will take an entire day of inactivity in town (or out on expedition with a saving throw).
For rememorizing spells, you will need a sleep, plus an indeterminate amount of time in the morning to study your books that I haven't decided on yet, but at this stage is negligible. If it's the middle of the day like now, then I'll let you take a 6-hour power nap and rememorize your spells if you can roll a 1-2 in 6, +1 for Con 15+, -1 for Con 8 or less.
The party decides to spend the rest of the day recuperating in this fancy ruin, for four to six hours.
Within a half hour, however, a noise is heard in the back alley (encounter roll 6). You carefully peek out that way and spot a strange religious entourage milling about in front of the temple adorned with reptilian motifs:
A man in green priestly robes, riding atop a strange newt-like creature, accompanied by five other priests on foot, five bowmen and five crossbowmen. They do not seem to notice you (surprise 3 vs 1).
The mounted priest reaches up inside the open mouth of a lizard statue at the corner of the building and a front door grinds open. The entourage enters the temple and the door slides shut.
