@theperilousdreamer, I know what you mean.
What I mean is that, I am not going for any kind of historical accuracy or chronology.
It is sometime between about 800 and 1000 AD, but all the Classical and Egyptian and Babylonian and Levantine, and stuff is still concurrent. Oh, and there's also the Huns in central Asia.
It's like "Night at the Museum"! Except that we stop at about 1000 AD in terms of the exhibits! Oh, and you might wind up in the Land of the Lost with Sleestacks.
The wildernesses are all HEX boards, but between points of civilization I just run it as a "point crawl," because there are no monsters outside of dungeons and wilderness. Etc.
They are currently in a pretty "high fantasy" "fay wild" (Dun Kells). But it is all in the same mythical Earth.
Even still, they just battled with a goblin spigot. And they found the hidden dwarven treasure in a giant glass beaker that fills with lava every time they try to get the treasure out.
That kind of thing.
Does that help?

The next round of low lvl PCs will be heading off on the silk route. They may just find Xanadu. And then what? Held within the pleasure dome Decreed by Kubla Khan To taste my bitter triumph As a mad immortal man Never more shall I return Escape these caves of ice For I have dined on honey dew And drunk the milk of paradise...Man. I'm totally putting Xanadu in my campaign now. Complete with a Dryad on roller skates named Olivia.

@theperilousdreamer, I know what you mean. What I mean is that, I am not going for any kind of historical accuracy or chronology. See veering over into originality right there! Tweak it and make it unique! It is sometime between about 800 and 1000 AD, but all the Classical and Egyptian and Babylonian and Levantine, and stuff is still concurrent. Oh, and there's also the Huns in central Asia. Cool! It's like "Night at the Museum"! Except that we stop at about 1000 AD in terms of the exhibits! Oh, and you might wind up in the Land of the Lost with Sleestacks. Yeah, I like having at least a little Gonzo (or a lot works too). Yes, original with a touch of Gonzo and no coo coo, at least not yet!
