Ramon spoke one last time, "I'm sure you all think me a mother hen on this, but as St. Cuthbert says, 'The mother who does not nag ends up with a handful of beans;' keep our plans to ourselves. There may be Cultists at the highest of high levels. Marcel and Joaquim, two mornings from now in Ryemend?"

Day 15, turn 18 for Joaquim, Marcel:
Following the conference of heroes, the two men from Greyhawk quickly returned to their upstairs rooms. Joaquim had his spell for detecting magic ready, and was eager to find out what was magical from their thief's loot. He cast his spell and --
One of the rings was magical, and glowed strongly of alteration magic. The thief's longsword was also magical, though it had a weaker, less definable magic to it.

Day 15, turn 21 for Joaquim, Ximo, Marcel:
It was night time when the men from Greyhawk returned to the Bronze Unicorn, and found it at its busiest, both in the common room and the gaming room, now that the gaming room was reopened to the public (following their earlier conference in there).
Interestingly, Curro Crespo, the acolyte of Cuthbert and soldier of the Church's Army who first welcomed them upon entering Verbobonc was here. He was sitting at a table with someone else they knew, Adept Ortzi of .... Apparently there was not much of any rivalry between these churches!

While Joaquim went to fill in Ximo on the day's events, Marcel invited himself to join the two priests. "Nice to see that you fellas are here paying your proper respects to Olidamarra on this fine Godsday," he said with a grin. The big man ordered food and wine from a passing wench, then turned back to the holy men. "Sorry we had to leave service this morning in a rush, Curro, but there was an incident at the Temple of the Journey. No doubt you've heard about it. You had any signs of trouble over at your place, Ortzi?"

Day 15, turn 21a for Joaquim, Ximo, Marcel:
Curro and Ortzi both winced noticeably at mention of Olidamarra -- apparently they were not friendly to all other faiths.
"We were just talking about this morning's attack on the West Temple," Curro said. It seemed an odd name for the Temple of the Journey, but then it was the westernmost temple in the city, so perhaps it made sense geographically. "Ortzi, this is Joaquim and Marcel, of Greyhawk."
"I believe I've made their acquaintance," Ortzi said. "Naturally, we're concerned about if our temple could be next. There's little official cooperation between our temples, but I wanted to see what I could learn here, unofficially."
Joaquim told Ximo all about the secret plan to attack Dieg Manor. And Ximo said he would consider joining the attack. He asked detailed questions about when it was planned for and who would be going.
"Will the Church and the Viscount be offering their support? How many troops do you think they'll be willing to send?" he asked.
"I spent my day at the Consortium training. Well, not at The Consortium, but instead traveling around meeting wizards that seem to have given up on being anything more than men who sit on their rear ends and use magic for narrow purposes. 'Specialists' do not seem to be full-blown wizards at all. I wonder why it is the illusionists continue to adventure but the others do not. Perhaps it has something to do with all the gnomes. Maybe they've found a way to make it work."
Ximo was thoughtful for a moment. "In any case, I'm famished. May I join your table and will it bother you if I'm eating?"
Post by Ronny Serio on Jan 28, 2016 18:16:34 GMT -6
"It's no bother," Joaquim told Ximo. "I'm sure Marcel will be eating too."
The pair of mages joined Marcel's table to find that, yes, he had indeed already secured himself a meal. Quick introductions were made all around and then Marcel offered his opinion on Ortzi's fear. "Makes sense to be worried. The cult seems to be going out of its way to provoke as many institutions as possible. Trouble is, both their previous attacks on temples came in very different forms. First was the attack by the dragon, today was more of a raid. Word is they also unleashed some undead creatures on the Harvester's Heroes. Hard to know what to watch for. Only thing that was consistent was the attacks came on Godsday. I'd be vigilant if I were you, that's for sure."
Marcel neglected to mention that if all went according to plan, the Cult would be no more come next Godsday. Ortzi and Curro seemed like decent enough fellas, but he wasn't about to let any secrets slip.

Day 15, turn 4 for Semeragin:
Semeragin wanted to return to his room and get some sleep, but he knew he would be out of his room after today. His landlord at the boarding house where he stayed had told him he would need to be out tomorrow.
"It is nothing against you, you are a wonderful renter -- but I have cousins coming up to stay with me from Avella and they need your room to stay, so..."
Which was why Semeragin had made his way to the nearby Inn of the Bronze Unicorn instead.
The sign out front showed a bronze unicorn rearing up against a white background. An ivy-covered, 5’ tall brick wall surrounded the small compound that composed this inn. The buildings, particularly the main one, were all-wood with high gables and lots of intricate, decorative woodwork. It reminded him of elvish architecture. Double gates in the brick wall were wide open at the entrance, but inside was a man-at-arms waiting to greet visitors and take their weapons.
"Welcome back, sir," the man said, remembering Semer from his last visit here. "Have a good time," he said after taking Semer's weapons.
Inside the walled compound of the inn was a small stable, a small brewery, and a third square building of unknown purpose beside the inn's main building. Some young commoners sat on the porch of the inn and approached Semeragin with requests for work.
"Anything you need cleaned? Run your messages for you? We'll work for coppers!"

Day 15, turn 4a for Semeragin:
Semeragin politely turned the urchins away and went inside. The front foyer led to the inn's common room. There were backgammon tables in the room. There was some furniture sized for dwarves and gnomes in the room. The common room had about seven people in it, and one young man with a scruffy beard approached Semeragin. He was not the innkeeper, but the "lad in charge in the innkeeper's absence" the young man explained.
"...we're pretty full up in our guest rooms," the young man explained. "Can you tell me a bit about yourself? Convince me that we should make room for you?"

Semer says " well I have stayed here beforee. Also my adventuring companions have been here the last couple of nights having dinner and spent money on drinks. Also I am a watchmen for one of the merchants. Now I would like a room and a meal is this going to be a problem."

Day 15, turn 5-13 for Semeragin:
The young man smiled. "No, no problem, sir. You passed a little test to see how honest you were. The innkeeper hates would-be renters who try to bribe him to make space for them, but you didn't try that. Let me show you your room..."
It was a small upstairs room, little bigger than a closet with a small window, but Semeragin did not have many worldly goods. Indeed, it only took him one trip to go back to his old boardinghouse, get the last of his things, and move them over, before having the innkeeper's assistant lock him in for a good eight hours of sleep.
Semeragin woke up that evening in time for supper. The inn smelled heavenly and the common room was now noisy. Much of the conversation in the common room was about the same topic -- apparently, there had been an attack on the Temple of the Journey earlier in the day, while he slept!

Semer says making conversation with one of the patrons " what happened at the temple. I was working an overnight job and slept today?"
One of locals makes fun of him saying that unless he was a sound sleeper surely he should have heard the alarm whistles He tells semer about an attack and a sighting of a dragon. Semer finishes his meal quickly and let's the innkeeper know he will be staying for a few days. Then he heads to the cathedral to see if he can lend a hand.

Day 16, turn 9 for Semeragin, Marcel:
Semeragin, upon hearing what he had missed, dashed off, just as a boarder was looking to top the latest version of the story of the day's events -- just missing an important and secret meeting held in the Bronze Unicorn Inn. It was late, though, and by the time Semeragin reached the High Quarter, he realized there was not enough time to go to the temple and still leave before the gates were closed for the night; he would be trapped in the bailey and would miss his appointed task of guarding the store.
Stuck with a less exciting task, Semeragin trudged off to Segal's -- and found Grerin still there, despite the late hour, along with two other employees working on the second floor.
"Semeragin!" the dwarf Grerin said. "Bad news -- something was stolen from the second floor during your watch last night after all. We had to make a careful inventory to find it, but a music instrument was stolen. The thief must have been that 'cat' you and Laurence thought you heard last night, using that broken window to escape. The thief would have needed to be quite small, maybe not much bigger than a cat. You and Laurence are on high alert tonight, in case the thief returns. In fact, we have an additional guard to join you."
Semeragin watched the building carefully all night, but there was no sign of the thief returning.
The next morning, Semer resisted sleep and headed to the Inner Bailey. There, he reported in at the temple about what had happened. Semer learned that he had been pranked at the inn last night -- there had been no second dragon attack, but the humans and giant ticks attacking at the Temple of the Journey had still done much harm.
Semer was told that the church was recruiting for a third expedition to the Ryemend Dungeon and for Semer to get his rest until waiting to hear if he would be called into service again. He would not need to report back to Segal's that night.
So Semer returned to the inn and slept all day -- until he heard knocking on his door. The innkeeper unlocked it, and Marcel came in to talk to Semer.
Semer looks up while getting dressed and says " Marcel good to see you. How is Joaquim? Excuse me for tidying up I have to look nice as I am attending a funeral for one of my former compatriots, a warrior named Nydia, who died during my last excursion in the ryemond dungeon. Curate Caltaran Nesmith is leading the procession as he was leading the expedition and took it pretty hard to lose someone. Although I have some time for a quick supper. So what have you been up to "
Post by Ronny Serio on Feb 18, 2016 10:45:59 GMT -6
"Supper, eh," Marcel said. "Why don't I join you."
Down in the common room, Marcel explained why he'd wanted to talk to Semer. "It's about Ryemend. I heard the last trip in didn't go well, so I'm rounding up a crew and heading back. Tomorrow. You've proven yourself in there, so if you're interested, I'd love to have you along."
Semer eats his meal and says " I heard from the cathederal that there was to be another ryemond dungeon raid. Since you are organizing this count me in. Are you leading this or is the church? I am going to the funeral service and I know all three of the clerics from the 2nd raid will be in attendance. Want me to mention this new raid to them?"
Post by Ronny Serio on Feb 19, 2016 9:08:53 GMT -6
"The Church is behind me, but this is my show," Marcel said. "Make no mistake. As for those clerics, Caltaran already knows and he's in. Gutxi Azarola is supposed to get word to the other two, but feel free to petition them yourself. I'm hoping to round up all the boys from our first run. Got a bunch of other folk coming too. This is going to be a strong crew. Glad to have you on board."
Marcel finished up his food, then made to go. "Need to be on my way. Lots more fellas to track down."

Day 17/turn 1 for Marcel, Joaquim, Semeragin:
Marcel had not slept all that well, for the responsibility of the third Ryemend expedition was now on his shoulders. Success would win him the Investigators Guild he so badly wanted. Failure might cool the temple hierarchy off on Marcel and cost him their assistance.
Joaquim woke first and began his exercises for the Strength spell. He was not sure how butt-clenching exercises were helping him, or how this was conditioning his mind, but Joaquim had to assume Quinton knew what he was doing.
Semeragin had difficulty falling asleep last, not because he was worried, but because it was difficult to adjust again to sleeping at night and being awake in the morning. He missed the first bell of the morning and woke up to the two bells an hour later (8 am). He prayed, dressed, and arrived in the common room -- in time to meet Marcel and Joaquim.
((I don't know what time you want to gather everyone and head to Ryemend. Right now?))

Day 18, turn 23 for Semeragin:
Semeragin was the first one back to the Bronze Unicorn Inn. He handed over his weapons, paid for a room (one of only two single rooms available), plus a little extra for use of the washing room. The washing room was a small (10' x 10') room off the common room, connected by an unlockable door. There he disrobed and washed himself in a small cast iron tub filled with cold dishwater.
When he was done, he dressed and returned to the common room. He passed a table where a dwarf and a halfling in strange garb sat. He overheard the dwarf say loudly, "Is it my fault no one's heard of the Enchanted Forest around here?"
