Day 14, turn 1 for Eder:
South of the city was farmland as far as the eye could see, and a well-maintained road, uniformly 20 yards wide, that zigzagged gradually between fields of crops that abutted the road. Copses of fruit-bearing trees could be seen here or there further from the road, but little grew along the route that would offer shade -- or conceal bandits.
About 65 yards down the road was a tollbooth manned by a group of 12 soldiers wearing the Viscount's colors and flying the Viscount's flag over the tollbooth. If the adventurers had not known of recent trouble in the city, they might have thought such numbers to guard a tollbooth suspiciously high.
"Good morning, travelers!" a guardsman shouted out to them. "Is your destination Etterboek to the south or Penwick to the southeast? Also know that the maintenance of the Viscount's Road is costly and all travelers are asked to part with 5 copper pieces for its use, from here to either township."

Day 14, turn 2 for Eder:
Eder had neglected to look at any maps to tell him where to go, so it was a good thing Fabio seemed to know.
"We head for Penwick," Fabio said.
Eder could not recall if Sergi ever paid this toll, because Eder never traveled with Sergi before and Sergi never mentioned it.
The Rhenee siblings paid the toll and moved on. Well out of earshot of the guards, Fabio said, "They were so polite because we had a dwarf with us. The people of Verbobonc have more respect for dwarves than for the Rhenee."
As they walked, and hours passed, Eder reflected on how glad he was to have the Harvesters' Heroes to fall back on, but two weeks in the human city had been more than enough for him. Now he only had two humans to deal with. And only one of them was going to be a problem.
"What?" Fabio was saying. "First you tell my sister that my brother is dead, then you fill her with hope that you can find him and bring him home, and then you tell us you have something more important to do?" Fabio laid a hand on the hilt of his short sword and looked like he was going to attack Eder for a moment.
"Relax, Fabio," his sister Jacqueline said. "All he said was that he did not want to take a turn driving the wagon."

Eder says " sergi was my friend. He even introduced me to his mother. We also met his girlfriend melania. He often talked of being famous, becoming wealthy and also being a big hero. I wish I would have went with him on his mission, perhaps I could have saved him. Regardless we will find his body and bring it back. "

Day 14, turn 3 for Eder:
The three travelers had good directions from the toll guards; they were to follow the main road to Etterboek for 3 miles before it branched off and a side road would take them southeast to the Village of Penwich, and then from there to Avella.
They all supposed that the number of farms around the road would thin out eventually, but for now there were plenty of houses to pass as they walked, both to look at and to help measure distances. Some fields had workers in them who paused and looked up to see the travelers, but even the ones in shouting distance seemed too busy to bother doing so.
After the first mile, the farms had thinned out. The terrain was pleasant. It was warm, uncomfortably so in armor, but not unbearable. They passed their first milestone -- a small, subtle rock that less experienced travelers might have glanced past.
The next farm they passed, though, looked oddly untended. The house stood silent, as if empty. Jacqueline and Fabio seemed to think nothing of it, though, and were prepared to ride past. Perhaps it was more common for farmers to abandon their land than a Dwur like Eder knew.

Day 14, turn 4 for Eder:
"What business is it of ours?" Fabio asked with a brusque shrug of his shoulders.
Without the backing of the Rhenee siblings, Eder the Elder was easily talked out of investigating and continuing on.
The next few miles were neither empty nor abandoned, but farms were growing more and more spread out and eventually they went their first mile without seeing any sign of settlements, until the next farm house came up on them. This one was even weirder than the last one that gave Eder pause, though. It looked like this lonely farmhouse, the entirety of it, was...shrouded in cobwebs?
Even Fabio could not shrug off this one. "That is strange..." he said. But then he turned and added, "Let's just ride past it faster!"

Day 14, turn 5 for Eder:
So they did get moving and they left the creepy-looking farmhouse behind. Time, and some more miles, past behind them.
Later that day, though, their progress was halted when their horse trotted straight into a web! The web had been thin enough to be invisible in the bright sunlight, but the horse panicked and soon became entangled in it.
This web net had stretched between two trees on either side of the road -- 40' apart! This was either the colossal undertaking of hundreds of spiders, some sort of magic, or...
Five large spiders started to converge on the road from the surrounding foliage! ((the closest one is 20' away! Intentions?))
Eder says " Jacqueline try to get the horse free from the web. I am going to defend us from the spiders. Fabio either help me or help your sister. " eder will throw one of his hand axes at the spider and then has shield ready. Then the next round he will draw his sword and attack it in melee.

Day 14, turn 5, rds. 1-2 for Eder:
The spiders were more interested in converging on a big tasty horse than a Dwur and two Rhenee, so Eder had a free minute to unholster his throwing axe and take careful aim. He picked out the biggest of the spiders and with a careful hurl lodged his axe deep into the spider's body.
"The horse is lost, let's get out of here!" Fabio shouted as he jumped out of the back of the wagon.
"Eder, come!" Jacqueline called out as she ran after Fabio.
For now, Eder stood his ground and waited. The seriously injured spider skittered away, two stayed wrapping up the horse in web, and two moved to attack Eder. The spiders were as fast as he was, but they could not win past his shield. But Eder was trapped on the defensive and could not get in a good swing or thrust with his sword.

Day 14, turn 5, rds. 3-4 for Eder:
The spiders seemed to be holding back from Eder's flashing sword as if they'd never seen one before, but Eder was still busy holding them off as he backed away.
The two spiders engaging Eder kept following him cautiously, testing his defenses with short lunges. And then one jumped right on top of him and knocked him down. Eder struggled to knock it off as it tore through chain links of his armor with strong mandibles. Eder finally kicked it off, but not before it had managed to sink its fangs into him.
Eder swung his sword more and chased it a few feet away, then began struggling to get back on his feet. The spider bite stung and was horribly painful.

Day 14, turn 5, rds. 5-6 for Eder:
Eder continued to bravely only back away from the spiders and continued his fighting withdrawal. The Spiders followed him, but staying just out of sword reach, as if watching to see what Eder did next. Eder, for his part, stumbled a bit. His head was swimming, as if he were feverish.
Eder was now 120' away from the wagon and the other two spiders, but two spiders proved to be more than Eder could handle. While one of them feinted to the left, the other bull rushed Eder and knocked him down again. Now the spiders were both on top of him, biting his hands through his gloves.
Eder was seriously wounded, and feeling so weak that he could not hold his sword up anymore. He was aware that the spiders were wrapping him up in webbing -- and then he smelled the putrid reek of oil -- before passing out.
Sometime later, Eder woke up again. His head was still swimming, his body felt so weak he didn't think he could move, but he thought he could talk and was aware that Jacqueline and Fabio were kneeling over him.
"Eder? Eder?" Jacqueline was saying. "The poison is...we don't think you have much more time. The spiders are gone, for now. We're not sure if we can make it back to the last farm and find sanctuary. But, if we do survive...is there anything we can do for you? Anyone we should contact?"

Day 14, turn 5, rd. 7 for Eder:
"Shh...we'll find Sergi. It'll be all right," Jacqueline said softly. She gave Eder water to drink.
Eder drifted in and out of consciousness at that point. In one of his more lucid moments, he realized that Jacqueline and Fabio were gone -- they had abandoned him, or been taken by the spiders. Worse -- all of his gear other than his armor was missing! Had the siblings robbed him?
Angry, confused, and worsening by the minute, Eder got on all fours and crawled in a random direction, unsure of where he was going. He managed this for about 15 minutes, until he finally succumbed to the spider venom coursing through his veins.
He closed his eyes. And Eder never opened them again.
