Turn 23 for Sergi, Ramon, Axen, Clybe, (Koldo, Aingeru):
Sergi, Ramon, Koldo, and Aingeru searched on the south side of the stream bank, but found nothing -- other than Koldo, who thought he'd found something, but needed help digging it out.
Axen had wandered off, heading south towards the battlefield. However, the adventurers had yet to work out the final detail of the riddle -- should they start east from Avella, the bridge, or the battlefield?
Ramon had made a decision since the augury spell of which direction to go but he was first focused on confirming that this was definitely the site of the battle. When Koldo called out that he might have found something, Ramon went to help him dig it out.
"The riddle indicates traveling 'eastward' and I think the bridge, as the sight of the battle makes for the most likely starting point. As for on which side of the stream, if these treasures were taken AWAY by the hordes then they I think this side of the stream makes the most sense. So, eastward from here. At this time my best guess is that we travel until sunset, 'A nonce before great Celestian's star does rise,' but I think we should also keep a look out for features that might appear to be examples of his constellation."
Ramon was starting to lose sight of the little halfling among the brush and called out, "AXEN! WE'RE GOING THIS WAY!"

Sergi listens to Ramon's reasoning and starts to walk eastward. He says, "are we looking for some structure? ruins? Maybe the next verse of the riddle might also help us besides looking for Celestian's symbol/signs? Since I am not versed in Celestian signs/symbols what are they?"

Turn 25 for Sergi, Ramon, Axen, Clybe, (Koldo, Aingeru):
With no trail to follow, the six adventurers set off over the grassy, rolling plains with nothing but the sun and Ramon's faith to guide them.
It took a long time for the walk-weary adventurers to cross the next five miles, but they did. There was still no sign of the riddle to verify that they had chosen wisely.
However, there was a small campsite on the plain, between two trees with some shrub cover, 150' due east of them -- indeed, right in their path. They could see four lightly armored men standing watch in the camp and looking straight at them.

Sergi says quietly, "perhaps these are members of the Harvester heroes?" To be safe Sergi slows his pace to allow the warriors to get ahead of Sergi. Sergi notes where the trees are and the cover lies in case there is combat and will be using his bow.

Clybe knew that social situations were his place to shine, so he stepped forward. "Greetings, men! I am Clyde Sandbo, a cleric of the Order of Saint Cuthbert. My friend, Ramon, who is also a cleric of the Order, and I are on a journey on behalf of the elders of our Order and, as we are not fighting men and these are dangerous times, we sought some trustworthy companions for this journey." Clybe walked slowly toward them with a smile and with his weaponless hands exposed. "I see you are dressed for combat. Are any of you injured? I would be glad to heal you."
As soon as Axen saw Clybe draw his mace, he started moving directly toward the bandits, executing a series of rolling falls, erratic movement, and dodging, attempting to thwart their attempts to hit him with projectiles until he was within melee range. His intent was to sweep their legs as quickly as possible and then go for anyone who wanted a melee fight, so as soon as he was close enough to the threatening men, he would sweep their legs with the broad side of his sword. He didn't intend to truly hurt these men unless the actually attacked, but the threat of banditry against clerics of Saint Cuthbert was sickening enough.
Sergi ran to the nearest tree and fired off a quick shot from his bow -- too quick to actually hit anyone.
Axen and Ramon charged the bandits, with Koldo and Aingeru running up behind them ((A+R are 60' away, K+A are 70' away from melee)).
An arrow whizzed over Axen's head, while arrows glanced off Ramon's armor. Koldo, however, was struck by an arrow. He cried out, grabbed at his gut where the arrow had pierced his chain armor, and sank to the ground. Aingeru took a serious wound from an arrow, but moaned and kept going.
Clybe stood back, 150' away, forgotten (for now) by the combatants.
((Sergi's to hit: 3; to hit Ramon: 14, to hit Axen: 9, to hit Koldo: 17-6 dmg, to hit Aingeru: 15-2 dmg))
Clybe decided his best approach here would be to "clean up" after combat as he felt Ramon, Axen, and the others had combat in hand. He rushed over to Koldo and checked on his wounds, frustrated that the only spell he knew involved detecting magic. He brushed the injured man's head and offered a sip of wine while keeping an eye on the battle.
Sergi kept firing from behind his tree cover, having plenty of time to target an archer before his comrades reached melee range. Unfortunately, cover worked both ways and the bandits seemed to have plenty of it from this angle.
The bandit archers stepped back 10' from their cover as Axen, Ramon, and Aingeru charged up to them -- only to have four more bandits armed with melee weapons jump out of the shrubbery! One was armed with a hand axe, another a wooden club, another with a flail, and the last with a short sword. They were all wearing leather armor. Axen, Ramon, and Aingeru had charged so far that they could only defend themselves now as the ambush was sprung. The axeman attacked Axen, but nearly fumbled his weapon as Axen tumbled towards his legs. The man with the club saw his weapon glance harmlessly off Axen's armor. The flail-wielder took on Aingeru, knocking him down and beating on him mercilessly. The short sword-wielder swung at Ramon, but swung too soon and missed entirely.
Clybe reached Koldo, still 110' from the melee. He found Koldo's wound wasn't fatal -- indeed, Koldo was just unconscious, perhaps having fainted from the pain.
The archers fired over the melee at Clybe and Sergi, way back there. Clybe, despite kneeling in the open, was safe behind his shield. Sergi, however, took two lucky hits despite the distance and his cover. They were superficial and not serious wounds.
Sergi returned fire at the far archers, missing by maybe an inch. The axeman missed Axen by a lot, but he took a serious blow from that club. The flail-wielder teamed up with the short sword-man against Ramon. The flail proved only a distraction for the other foe, who crashed his sword into Ramon's heavy armor for a moderate bludgeoning wound.
Axen and Ramon had no luck hitting their opponents back, though Axen's leg sweep almost connected with the club-wielder.
((Rd. 1: Sergi's to hit: 2; to hit Axen: 1, 12; to hit Aingeru: 17-5 dmg; to hit Ramon: 8; to hit Sergi: 20, 18- 5 dmg total; to hit Clybe: 11, 10; rd. 2: Sergi's to hit: 12; to hit Axen: 2, 15-6 dmg; to hit Ramon: 14, 18-4 dmg; Axen's to hit: 11; Ramon's to hit: 4))

After taking two arrows in the side, Sergi grunts with pain and continues to fire arrows back at the archer bandits. He yells to Clybe, "the melee combatants can use some help. If we surrender they surely will kill us"
