Reading Men & Magic about languages, I remark something absoluty nice: - most humans speak commons. But not all. - elves & dwarves speak 'the usual tongues' (dwarves) and 'other usual tongues' (elves), in addaition to the humanoid languages they learn. - halflings speaks no aditional language. These 'usual tongues' surely apply to alignement languages, as everyone seems, btb, to know his one (which means halflings all speak Law language, while Elves and Dwarves could choose between Law and Neutrality, btb too). But does it apply to 'common tongue' of humans? Probably yes. But the answer is, as usual, under the lines. If we answer no, elves, dwarves have 20% chance to speak common. And, as they don't have additional 'usual' languages, all halflings have 20% chance to speak common too - for them, it's clear! This makes the alignement language very useful, as long as all characters have the same one in the party I love od&d.
