and present the Art Challenge! Judged by Erol Otus and shown in the pages of Fight On! All artists are invited to submit a picture on one of the following themes: - The Adventure Takes a Surprising Twist
- One Charge Left
- Overland
By Erol's Command, Any Style, Any Media, and Any Freaking Thing Goes! Winning Entries will be published in Fight On! and awarded PRIZES in separate Color and B&W categories, as follows: 1st Prize: Up to £ 50 worth of Otherworld's magnificent minis, or a full year's (four issue) print subscription to Fight On! 2nd Prize: Up to £ 30 worth of Otherworld miniatures, or a half year's (two issue) print subscription to Fight On! 3rd Prize: Up to £ 20 worth of Otherworld's fantastic figurines, or a full year's PDF subscription to Fight On! Honorable Mention: Free PDF of the issue of Fight On! in which your work is published. The six 1st-3rd prizewinners will also receive Erol's commentary on their work, published along with the image in Fight On! (Winning color images will be covers of upcoming issues.) That's six top prizes in all, three in each category! You can see Otherworld's product line at www.otherworld.me.uk/, and check out Fight On! at stores.lulu.com/FightOn. Better yet, all artists submitting retain ownership of their own work. Fight On! asks only for the right to publish winners in a future issue of the magazine and for artists not to post their submitted work on-line in any form (including for sale in other PDF products) for six months after the conclusion of the contest. They may re-submit or re-sell to print venues immediately and to on-line venues six months after the contest's conclusion, and in general ownership and all rights except the delay in on-line posting/publication and Fight On!'s right to publish your image in a future issue of the magazine remain with the artist. So artists - let's see what you've got! Please send submissions to iggyumlaut@gmail.com by Sunday, May 3, 2009 to be considered. Thank you!

One place where some of you could help with this is by posting this on online fantasy art community boards. I'm not so tied in with those so you have my blessing to do that. Let me know if you need me to send you the bbcode to make your life easier. If there are other RPG communities which might be interested you could post them there as well - I've hit the usual suspects (DF, K&K, Enworld, Acaeum, rpg.net, therpgsite, the Forge, Story Games). Thanks!

In a related note, if anyone wants to meet Erol, he will be at DunDraCon this weekend (I think the 15th) for signing things, etc.

Hmmm. Multiple submissions are actually OK. Text is ambiguous/misleading on this point...
So there's some inside information for you ODDDiehards.

I had a couple of ideas bouncing around, and I was a bit ambivalent towards them until I had a flash of inspiration the other day. So expect at least one from me, and while it might not be what you're looking for for the competition, you might find a use for it in the magazine.

I'm trying to promote this on art sites. Is anyone here registered on conceptart.org already so they could post a copy of this ad in the Challenge section? They aren't taking new registrants right now.
Elfwood is down for maintenance. I posted a version of the ad at deviantart and epilogue.net already.

Here's the full information.
To sweeten the deal for those who don't want mags or minis I'll add $50/$25/$10 cash prizes in each category to the winners as a third option.

How many pieces are we allowed to submit? Just one?

There is no limit. You could theoretically submit say three color and three black and white pieces.
And, I hope some of you do!

Cool! I just might do that.
This is kind of an aside, but I've been wanting to ask about Otherworld. I've been looking to buy some minis from there, but I notice that the site hasn't been working lately. Does anybody know what's going on there and if it will affect the winners ability to collect their prizes?
*edit*
Nevermind! It's working now. I was having some problems accessing the page for a while.

Out of curiosity, who around these parts is planning to submit? I'll be cutting it fine due to work and family stuff but yes, I'll submit an entry.

Great, ant! I hope all of you will submit...I will even keep the deadline open a few hours past midnight or whatever so that if you're up late you still have a chance for the last minute sub.

Thanks! A lot of people came through and we appear to have gotten a lot of very cool entries. Erol and I are working out how to get stuff sent to him now. I am at home busy today which means I probably won't actually get organized until late tonight or tomorrow.
(Which might mean that if Ig doesn't check date stamps people could still slip pics in under the wire right now or even tonight! No promises though...)
Anyway, thanks for participating, we will have more news/announcements on this soon!

After we sent them along Erol wrote back "Wow, what a lot of great pictures. This is not going to be easy at all." We indicated that there was no big rush to judgment, but will drop him a line tomorrow to see how things are progressing!

Question: Are you guys holding this contest again anytime soon? Or was this a one time thing?

We would like to hold another art contest, but we have to finish the fiction contest first, and there's another cool contest coming after that, so...we'd better get to work! Thanks for your interest!
